Professor Kellen Rist And The Temple Of Doom (D3, MA)

Kat had no idea what a trip like this would be like. Closest she had gone on archaeological trips was during her visit to Ilum, where she made her lightsaber. Did that even count?

Still, she was kitted out for possible dangers, wearing her armor underneath the brown jedi robe, and with a backpack on with field-gear.

Whereas Kellen was kitted out in his field gear. This included a very stylish jacket, a surveyor's bag full of his archeological tools, and a very nice wide-brimmed hat.

"I'm intrigued to see what we might find in this mountain fortress of yours." Kellen grinned at the two Jedi and winked at Pimbo. "Did everyone remember to pack a lunch? Or two lunches, just in case..."

"Healthy nutritional ration-bars," she remarked with some dry humor herself. The Ulgo Jedi positively looked... a little excited? Perhaps because it was something that could be very interesting without having to involve violence or politics.

"This is my first archaeological mission. Will be interested to see what that's like... I've read Dr. Lyseil Panteer's works, so it always seemed rather thrilling."

The ambience cooled noticeably. "Mhm. She does have a...how can I put this? A certain way with words. If you like gratuitous embellishment I'm sure it would be quite charming."

He raised an eyebrow then turned his attention to his notes on what Pimbo had given them the previous day. "I take it that Baron Ulgo was happy enough for us to explore at our discretion?"

Tethys is kitted out in a style rather similar to Kat's--armor, basic outdoors gear. The lightsaber is a given.

"Oh, Ms.--no, I imagine it's Dr. Panteer now. She and I were on the Bankor campaign together, hm, five or six years ago now. " From her tone, she presumably has a fairly positive impression of Lyseil from back then. "That was rather a different context, though. Unfortunately. Less humanistic inquiry, more sniper fire." And clearly that is a less positive memory.

"No one's living on top of this site, I gathered? Just Baron Ulgo's ecological preserve?"

The site came into view it was a small military outpost built on the ruins of what looked like a growth overgrown castle. The banner of Ulgo flying from the outpost. The guards are affable if a bit confused at why Jedi and a researcher have come but they have been given clearance, well two hours of clearance from Baroness Ulgo.

Sergeant Biggs and Corporal Wedge would escort them down to access to the old ruins. Wedge noted they should probably watch out for rock spiders, not dangerous but they were large and jumpy. Sergeant Biggs added that Ulgo folks cleared it out decades ago but if they wanted to kick around, have fun. Two hours of fun.

The air is chilly here and there is fresh snow on the ground, the air thin.

Pimbo decided he would stay at the museum, it was fish sandwich day.

"Thank you," she gave a small bow to the sergeant and corporal. Kat couldn't quite hold back a shudder at the mention of spiders.

Why did it have to be spiders?

"Well then, let's go take a look. Hopefully there will be no spiders... and some interesting history instead."

"Can't really hold it against the spiders, if this is their home." Tethys's lips quirk. "Let's avoid bothering them, though, all the same." She smooths the collar of her thermal cloak with one long-fingered hand and steps along to inspect the first bit of ruined masonry.

((I'm not quite clear on whether these are above-ground ruins, or literally underneath the modern military outpost, underground?))

OOC: Unergroundish, they built on top of the old ruins.

"Agreed... just don't like them a whole lot myself. Those long legs and all those eyes..." A brief grimace at the thought crossed her features, and Kat took the lead in.

Holding a glow rod in her hand, she illuminated their way ahead. Sure she had goggles to see in the dark with, but the light would probably make the spiders steer clear of them. Hopefully.

She sees things scuttle and jump away from the light, and the interior was vintage perhaps this was used once maybe a century or two ago but now was just cobwebs, shattered walls and overgrowth. A sign written in old Basic read, ‘Pu-lic Re--esher’ with an arrow going ahead and to the right a sign reading, ‘Me-s -all’.

"Well, if anyone forgot to go before leaving the house, we now know where the refresher is," Kat remarked with some dry humor as her glowrod lit up the sign. "Mess Hall sounds like it will go further into the complex, so probably a good way to head."

Kellen chuckled. "I think I'll pass on the extreme spider close ups thank you." At least it isn't rats... He pressed onwards sticking close to the two Jedi.

"Alright, let's try not to break any irreplaceable ancient artifacts shall we?" He had easily slipped into Professor mode. "Let's see if we can find ourselves an archive or room of records. The place may have been searched but in my experience there is almost always a hidden chamber." Maybe that was just Rist architects, but he'd be surprised if something wasn't missed by the clearing team.

The doors to the mess hall had to be forced open but they yielded with some effort. Inside they found empty dust covered tables and faded signs most of them Ulgo propaganda posters of doing your part and such. When the light is shined spiders scuttle away.

A monitor on the far side of the room still has power and blinks sporadically with a cracked screen.

"Wow, there is still some power running here. Either it has a separate generator, or they just didn't cut off the lines leading to this one."

Approaching the monitor, Kat looked it over to see how usable it was. Perhaps it would yield something interesting.

"Built to last." He walked over to look more closely. "Bit odd though. Wonder why it was left on." As Kat went to check the computer he looked around the rest of the room.

It looked like a typical mess hall, if such a thing existed. Just covered in rust, debris, and spider webs.

"A good question. But I suspect the answer might be more mundane in that they probably never bothered to turn it off, in the off-chance that they needed to fall back here, or something like that...?"

It wasn't exactly a bunker, but sometimes you just needed options.

Looking over the monitor, she looked around for any panels or keyboards to use, in case it worked.

A garbled voice came out, "Wel-co-shhhhr, ple-ase, sele-shrrrr" The screen tried to display something but it seemed garbled.

"Hmmm... maybe I can fix it to work just enough..." Kat wondered out loud, as she tried to assess the damages to it.
