[Day 4 - LE] A Princely Waltz (Closed)

The Queen rose and gave a short speech on the value of family and to thank her family both immediate and extended for attending this unction. Once she sat a bell was run to announce the start of the meal and the nobles politely ate and spoke amongst themselves.

OOC: Players can choose at this stage to focus their efforts on the Queen or Joran, if on the Queen they can make an Education (Intellect) check to speak about a subject with knowledge, Survival (Cunning) to speak of the great outdoors and such with interest, or a Charm (Presence) roll to just abide by the rules of etiquette. This check is an Average check but each is weighted differently, from Best to worst. This roll is not affected by equipment, the Queen has been around the block and is Nobody’s Fool.

If seeking to Impress Joran they can again make an Education Intellect) roll to speak about a subject at length, Athletics (Brawn) to discuss the value of good exercise and regimen, or Leadership (Presence) to speak on the value of leading others as both a noble and soldier. The difficulty is Hard as lots of people are vying for his attention, but each is weighted differently, from Best to worst..

Delmi listened and nodded along with the conversation around Joran for a few minutes as it drifted towards a conversation on how to motivate people.

She spoke up after someone had made a comment, "In my experience... people gotta feel a few things in order to be motivated. They gotta feel valued... respected... and accepted. I had this guy back on Balmorra... Bounced around a lot from unit to unit. Everyone thought he was a weirdo, not really useful. But when we figured out that he had a crack-eye for spotting displaced dirt... He saved so many of our people from mines. He was never happier than when we told him how much he meant to us. We listened to him..." She smiled.

"And when he said crazy stuff we didn't kick him out of the card game. He was one of us. And he worked hard to keep it that way."

Cynella, for her part, didn't have much of a background in great leadership positions. So while she did say her part on the virtues of congregating everyone under a unified cause, it didn't have the same impact of real-world experience. Indeed, the only thing she could speak about was getting people on the same page about the softness of chairs and that wasn't anywhere close to, say, getting the Alderaanian Houses to get along.

Cynella might have failed to interest the prince with her talks but she managed to do well with others at the table itself. If anything, she was at least able to show her capability to meld within both Alderaanian and Kuati culture.

OOC: Delmi is trying to be approachable. So... Adv to perhaps either counteract the nasty stuff Hinock will spread to him, or make him inclined to talk to her about it sometime in person?

[Riss]

Finding a lull in the conversation, albeit brief as it was, Riss casually slips herself into a place where she can try her hand at speaking with the queen herself. Though her gaze did linger on the idea of joining toward Joran's side alike the others surely would, the attention he would receive did dim her desire slightly. Riss grew up in a noble family, the middle child, it gave her that intense urge to be seen and to stand out. Luckily, when she was growing up this took to learning how to maneuver in social situations with not just grace but direction. Direction that she hoped might lead her to an answer for a question which has been sneaking in at the back of her mind since she'd arrived.

Out of everyone invited here tonight, she stood out. Riss could never truly deny that she wasn't hopelessly curious as to why that was, why she was invited.

So, she plied her trade. Riss wasn't knowledgeable like others might be, not a studied woman whom stuck to stuffy data-banks and researched nonsense for hours on end. Nor was she a woman of the woods whom might be able to tell you just what a womp rats primary diet should be. She was, however, very skilled at managing herself socially and carrying on just about any conversation if she felt the need. Able to shake off both her own fears, and perhaps the derision of others against her with overwhelming kindness. What she hoped was that would be enough to keep her nearish the queens side long enough to glean something about her, and the situation itself.

"Your Majesty, I had the pleasure of meeting with Commander Janir during the interlude. I think it is a wonderful idea to exchange personnel amongst the system. We could also benefit from bringing in some offworlders to share their knowledge and expertise.

On my way to the Spring Palace, I spoke at length with Count Serenno about his command philosophy. It was a very interesting discussion centered on empowering the men under command to better flexibility. He offered to meet with my troopers to continue the discussion. I believe he could offer much to the ADF on the matter."

To Riss she said, “We saw your encounter with my niece, how was the encounter?”

"Ashira you mean?" she asks, a quick raise of the brow. Offering an easy smile she settles a little, as she can, "Pretty but intense eyes. She seemed.. I don't want to say strange, cryptic though for sure. Had a lot to say but I struggled a bit with understanding a lot of it. Though, I learned a bit about some kind of cards. One of them more than the other, actually, I should have actually asked her about the other one," she chuckles, briefly.

"The Fool and Death," she offers casually, just adding information to the pile in case it clicked. "Death was the one she told me more about."

"My Queen, there was a group at the Fair Grounds that was leading the people in song... They were singing praise for Duke Ulgo and criticism of House Panteer. They were inciting the people.

I saw Prince Joran approach the group, likely to defend the honor of House Panteer, but others intervened. There was some discussion amongst them, and then the crowd became hostile, I believe towards the presence of Duke Thul, and that is when the brawl began.

I must disclose that I missed the actual altercation. I had seen an old acquaintance, a retired trooper who had served under me, among the protestors and went in to pull him away from the whole debacle."

"I was successful in extracting him and keeping him from doing something he would regret...for now. But he is most certainly still indoctrinated into this movement.

Please be rest assured, I will not put my personal connections to this individual above the safety of the Royal Family. I am working with Major Koor to make sure he does no harm and to find the core of the instigators."

"I won't let myself feel too silly for getting caught up in her words then. Had me worried a bit with words like death and fool at first, but change isn't too bad," she chuckles softly. Furrowing her brow in thought, "Though.. the other bits worry a little more. Apparently a victim of events, big changes, one that affects way more than just me," she offers a simple shrug.

"Hope maybe though? She said something about a light in the darkness too."

"We are confident her words were meant well," the Queen said.
