The Welcoming Committee (D0, Night)

Kat had gotten the message of Riss' arrival, that the ship would land sometime in the evening.
Which of course meant it was about a couple of hours later Kat was still waiting at the assigned hangar. By this point she had meditated, and meditated some more, but even she felt her patience a bit tested. But what if something had happened? Riss was surely coming here to run away from some hornet's nest she had kicked somewhere else, so it wasn't impossible.
The message hadn't seemed like a distress call though, so for now, she was not concerned.

Eventually, the sound of the Rimma Roundabout coming into port signals and in she flies, in all her glory. Touching down with a satisfying if unimpressively standard affair of a landing the ship settles down into place. From the cockpit Riss can be seen, but doesn't seem to be looking around outside yet as she's more focused on the task at hand and talking over the comms with control. A minute passes and she sets down the headset halfway through a spinning lunge out of her seat and into the ship proper.
A hiss as the ramp lowers, Riss standing at the top with both hands on either one of her hips. Just above her blasters resting in their holsters but one with a fancier looking shine to it. Leather jacket worn with a few frayed holes in it, long pink hair blowing a little in the rush of wind as the ship truly stabilizes with the outside air.

One could probably find a more contrasting pair than the simple brown-garbed Jedi Knight and the colorful privateer, but for now it was quite an odd pairing here on Alderaan.
Sighing, Kat pushed herself off from the chair she had been waiting in, striding forward. One eyebrow was quirked in annoyance. "You said you'd be here three hours ago," she said as they came within sight of one another, stopping to cross her arms. "... Should I be worried that something's going to come out of atmo soon to pursue you?"

Standing triumphantly at the top of the ramp for a second more Riss looks down toward Kat, a wide grin. Striding down the walk hands coming up to rest on the back of her blasters as the hips swayed and blasters clattered a little against her belt. "Only if you'd get jealous for why they're here," she teases with a playful wink. Coming down to stand before Kat she gives her a good look over, just a little taller she looks down at her with a growing grin.
Without another word she brings her arms around Kat in a big hug, squeezing her tightly, "Missed you," she says warmly.

Kat rolled her eyes. "I am not a jealous type, Riss."
With that, the hug was accepted with open arms that in return gave Riss a good squeeze. Up close, Kat had a pleasant earthy-scent to her - kind of what someone might almost imagine Alderaan would smell like.
"I have missed you too, Riss. It's a pleasant surprise to see you again, here, of all places," letting go, she gave herself a moment to look Riss over with that scrutinizing Jedi-look. Kat did have pretty decent senses, after all. "... What brings you to Alderaan? The Festival?"

Riss, in turn, had a pleasant perfumed scent masked a lot but the musty one that overpowered it a little. Was hard to tell where the musty scent came from, the time spent cramped up in a ship for days or perhaps it was just the frayed jacket was a little too old by now. Still, patch-worked as it was there was far too much love in the jacket for Riss to consider letting it go. Though, she did let go of Kat as the hug broke.
Riss was an open book, more or less, but the most telling thing was when she was avoiding talking about something. How her expression seems distracted from the conversation when it almost never otherwise is. A little curl of the brow in just the right moment, the little expressions that sneak in and give away her tells. Knowing her like she did Kat could be sure there was something on Riss' mind that she was avoiding bringing the conversation toward.
"Thought I'd check it out, yea-" she says, her brow furrowing as a hand come up to Kat's jaw and she traces a finger along it thoughtfully. Eyes snapping back to the moment she smiles briefly, lowering her hand. "And.. what better chance to come visit you than the festival where they give out free housing and food, mmm?" Riss brings both hands up to either of Kat's arms and lays them just on the biceps and gives a gentle squeeze. "See one of my favorite Jedi?"

"You sure picked one hell of a time for a friendly visit then," she laughed softly and extended one hand to pat Riss on the shoulder. While she knew there might be something else going on, Kat was rarely the type to press a suspicion unless there was a good reason to. And she didn't have a reason to suspect Riss was putting anyone in danger.
Yet.
"You'll be staying at the Spring Palace then? It's where most offworld visitors stay for the duration of the festival... and I have a suspicion you'll like it better there than Castle Ulgo. The place is a bit... uptight, for your tastes. Even more so than a lot of other places on Alderaan."

"You know me, I make the most of wherever I am. Probably better for Castle Ulgo than me that I go enjoy the sweet offerings of Alderaan's reigning nobility, huh?" she says with a put-on bright smile. Hands brushing along Kat's arms with three strokes she lets them fall back to her own side, resting on her blasters once more. "Didn't think I'd be walking into anything too exciting though. Sure, all the usual drama," she raises one hand, waves it around a little dismissively at the topic. "But when is the festival not filled with drama?" she smirks, chuckling briefly.
"Thought I'd just come here, soak up a little bit of the local happenings, see a good friend, and see what mischief I can get up to around the place and.. find another job. Even self-employed folk gotta find some time for a vacation mmm?"

Kat chuckled, and shook her head with some amusement as she placed her hands on her own hips. Devoid of blasters, of course, but the lightsaber was as always by her side.
"Try not to cause too much trouble, will you? I know that's asking a lot, but... yeah, I might have some ideas of where you could help out, depending on what sort of work you're looking for. And how much you want to get involved in politics, hm?"

"I'm always looking to get myself involved in other people's business," she flashes a smirk. Regarding Kat for a moment, eyes working up from her hip until they met with Kat's own again. Hand coming off her blaster she tossed her thumb back over her shoulder. "Wanna come inside to chat for a bit? Can see the old place and..."
"Chat about whatever's going on," she holds it back a moment but sighs. "And.. I can ask you for something too," she said it, and her needing something was certainly coming when it comes to a visit from Riss.

One of Kat's eyebrows quirked a little bit, as she knew from experience it was always going to be interesting when Riss had something to ask about. Or for. And that was interesting as in the old curse may you live in interesting times.
"Sure, sounds good. And better than standing around here," she nodded, gesturing for Riss to lead the way aboard. Kat would follow behind at the captain's invitation. "So have you fixed the air freshening filter? I remember it still having that funky smell last time I was on board."

Boring.
This place is boring, it’s like all the other places on this boring do nothing place we call our so-called home. Boring people.
Boring ships.
Boring… light-sabers…
Be still my heart… an actual… ahem… get a hold of yourself. My mind burns… the golden possibilities, that poise… those eyes… my heart quickens.
So too does the floor… am I falling?
Into brilliance and surely my *Slam* the young man’s head hit the ground as he felt back trying to walk past the two speaking women.
Play it cool… maybe no one noticed. Just lay on the ground and pretend you meant for that to happen.

"Define fixed," she says, turning halfway first to get Kat to step in beside her. Turning full as she was joined Riss goes to lead the way up the ramp, "Cause I got it fixed, but it still smells a bit funky. Just a different kind of funky altogether. Though.. do ships ever not smell funk-" and then the familiar sound of lover-boys slamming against the floor.
Eyes cast toward the apparent corpses direction she gave a look to Kat, "You uh.. think he's dead?"

She began to chuckle at the news of the air filter, but it was cut short with the sound of someone slamming into the floor, and she turned to see what was going on, a brief moment showing the trained ease of a Jedi Knight with the way her hand drifted instinctively to the hilt of her saber and already stepping in front of Riss.
"..." Kat looked at the motionless young man on the floor, and deciding it was no danger at the moment, hurried over to check on him. Perhaps a medical condition? "Sir? Are you alright?"

He laid there motionless before opening one eye and saying quietly, “Do… Do I look dead?”

"... Not as such, no. Dead people rarely speak or blink," she responded calmly, taking in the scene in front of her and stepping closer to offer him a helping hand to stand. "It seems you had a nasty fall, sir. Allow me to help you."

Riss hands almost went out to tickle Kat the moment she'd stepped in to 'protect' her, but they only met air as the woman was not only a Jedi but quick at being one. With a soft sigh she puts each back on the weapons at her hip for comfort and strides on slowly behind Kat. Taking her time to appreciate the scene for what it was, a soft chuckle playing up in the time. Arriving a few seconds later she hovers around nearby, not quite menacing but quite the image of the gunslinger she only wished she was in some of her more exciting daydreams.
"Not yet.. close the eye and hold your breath," she says, smirk worn. Coming a bit closer Riss leans just over Kat's shoulder.

That’s it, just pretend you were doing research. He cleared his throat and said, “I was trying to imagine what being dead would be like… but I have never seen a dead body before. For research.”
“Not like that though,” he stammered as he took her hand and got to his feet.
“Not that I assumed you meant it like that, Master Jedi, but if you did that would be the wrong idea of my intentions, which are… honest intentions.”
“Honestly honest.”
Once standing his hand recoiled like a rocket and he adjusted his shirt and spectacles. “Ahem, just honest research about being dead.”

Watching the interaction a bit, Riss leans in a bit more and places a hand on Kat's shoulder after they'd risen and Jerri had taken his hand back. A subtle smirk rising, but diminishing as she hides it away, "Riiight," she glances to Kat from just behind to her side, "I've seen a lot of people doing research just like this. Comes with the whole being a Captain of a ship thing. Ya know, falling down in a spaceport is where I'd go if I wanted to learn how to be dead," there's a tone to her voice, one that was certainly recognizable to Kat as teasing.

This one gets it.
He agreed and said, "Then you understand, nothing
abnormal about that."
Smooth.
