[Day 7 - Early Evening] Loose Ends

[Aurilie Alde]

Aurilie was all geared up and waited at the meeting area for her companions to arrive, busying herself by checking on the scope of her rifle in case things got too complicated on their hunt. She supposed these creatures might be nocturnal or at least cautious enough to think that the evening will be considered a safe time to freely roam. It was time to close this loose end and make the wild lands safe, relatively safer at least.

[Blai Frayus]

Another of the now usual hunting joined her shortly, sporting his trademark cargo pants and overly loaded backpack, Icewolf happily at his heels as always.

"Good Evenin', Prince Alde!", he said, some cheerfulness hiding the worries the conversation on the day before made clear he definitely had. "From what little I could see while participating and what I've heard later, you've put forth a valiant effort at the race today! I hope you and your Thranta have had fun!", he says, apparently still a bit excited about the whole thing - maybe as a way to cope with the stress of possibly having to see and put down another corrupted animal.

"Good evening." Galen offered as he arrived. He smiled as he looked over his equipment again.

[Aurilie Alde]

"Good evening, Ser Frayus," she gave him a nod and a small smile after finished checking her things. "And you as well, Galen."

"Yes..." She said pensively with a restrained sigh. "I suppose it's a bit unfortunate that I've been unable to see the whole race that's been set out for us. While I've done my share of leisure flying, racing proved to be an entirely different endeavour. It was enlightening, to say the least, especially required some rethinking on my end. I've learned at least to not treat it as an obstacle course and have thranta constantly jumping bars. Well, I know how to do better next time. You've done very well, however, a fine showing indeed."

Galen had his usual equipment, including his remaining trap.

Aurilie found herself so confident with Galen's skills that she merely allowed him to lead the way on the hunt.

"Yes..." She said pensively with a restrained sigh. "I suppose it's a bit unfortunate that I've been unable to see the whole race that's been set out for us. The excitement of the day before seemed to return to the researcher's face for a moment at her words. "Thanks, miss Alde! I really enjoyed it all, I'd been a long time without flying before that time with Ziandra a few days back. I'd almost forgotten how great it feels! But... yeah, learning to feel your companion's spirit and know when to let it take a breath is an important part of the partnership. And it's a tough one to learn, with any beasts! Sometimes it's the opposite, even", he says, looking with a smile at Elur, who was currently sniffing around as if looking for a trail. "I remember when I was first trying to train a young slice hound... it ran and frolicked around like crazy, and I tried to keep up so hard and for so long that at one point I couldn't feel my legs and just crashed down in the grasslands we were training in", he says with a laugh. "Of course young Belardi just jumped on top of me and wanted me to get up to play, then.. but over time we got to know each other better", he adds, his face clearly nostalgic for a while.

Shaking it off, he looks at her with a gentle, encouraging smile. "You'll do better next time for sure!" A pensive moment and he adds. "In fact... if you want to try another go before the festival ends... maybe we can get a chance to?" He looks towards Galen and extends the invitation to him as well with a "What do you say, Galen?", then sees he's clearly found something.

Elur was still sniffing as Blai heard the hunter's confident remark. With a smile, he nodded to the others, then called the wolf with a whistle. "Relax, girl, Galen's making things easy for us today, eh?", he said with a grin.

"Oh, I would be more than willing to give it another try. Although, I'm sure it will depend if the Duchess is generous enough to lend her stable again. I believe it was her stable, to the best of my recollection?" She looked questioningly around the group for a moment.

She nodded in Elur's direction. "I don't think I've been told about your companion's origins until now. Funny, I was just talking to Omandri Rist the other day, who has a companion of his own but a droid. And I was thinking about getting one but I suppose you lose out on all of the intricacies of training your own friend from the beginning. It most certainly gave you some edge in the race. And I'm sure you understand all her quirks better too."

Galen tracks the wayward mate to a small cave in the woods and it rose and growled but unlike the others does not seem as corrupted.

"This one doesn't look as bad as the others." Galen said quietly. "Be ready."

He approached slowly, watching the animal closely. He prepared himself to calm her through the Force.

Aurilie kept her rifle at the ready at the house. She supposed while it looked normal, it might have some residual affliction. While she didn't know the entire details of its corruption, especially when much of it was caused by the mad workings of a Sith, she knew that there was always something else that wasn't obvious.

"I suppose if it's truly not bad, we could take this one alive but I'd like to know for sure," she said begrudgingly.

"Oh, I would be more than willing to give it another try. Although, I'm sure it will depend if the Duchess is generous enough to lend her stable again. I believe it was her stable, to the best of my recollection?" She looked questioningly around the group for a moment.

"I think it was... Well, we could ask for permission! Maybe in exchange for some work with the animals, training even if necessary... I know I wouldn't mind working with them for some time", he says with a happy smile that seems to come much more easily now talking about beasts.

"Oh, a droid companion?" He seems pensive for a while. I guess it's... Different? But maybe similar, if it's one you have to actually train and get used to, instead of just programming?" He scratches his head, seeming a bit unsure, as they follow Galen's lead. "I'm not so experienced with droids, so I'm not sure.... But I could certainly talk at length about the advantages of - and the fun! Eh, also the exasperating I guess... - of training and bonding with a friend from the start", he says, reaching to Elur's mane with another smile. "If you really like animals, want a loyal friend and are ready to be loyal to it too, I'd say it's certainly the way to go! I certainly wouldn't do it any other way. Right, girl?", he says with a loving pat on the slightly confused she-wolf.

"As for Elur's story...", he's about to start, when he noticed Galen slowing down and adds in a quieter voice "Eh! We can get back to that later eh?", and starts walking more slowly and carefully as well.

Seeing the remaining hound in much better condition than the others, he unconsciously let out a sigh of relief. "I certainly hope we can", he said in a soft tone to Aurilie, then called Galen's attention with his hand.

"I can try to get it to calm down and behave as well if needed, Galen. Be careful... but let's hope we can reach to it."

He let Galen approach first, but kept close, trying to read the animal's movements to assess its state and see if he can establish some sort of rapport with it.

OOC:
Guessing Galen will go for Influence? Hoping to try to calm it down and trust Blai with a survival roll later, if that's possible. Could throw a ration to it or something similar as part of the deal.

It growls menacingly but for now does not attack.

Galen reached out to the creature through the Force, thinking about what he had seen the Witches of Nal Hutta do. He felt the darkness still clinging to the hound, but on Nar Shadaa Lyshea had taught him how to balance that darkness.
