[Day 8 - Late Morning] Carnies and Corndogs

by Aurilie Alde
Aurilie returned to where the various gaming booths were set up at the grand fair grounds. It was perhaps earlier enough that the grounds didn't find themselves full of people but enough that people were already occupying the various games here and trying their luck. Of course, as she pointed out to Cynella, the games were rigged to ensure that winning was very unlikely. However, Aurilie had to admit that knowing this did make her feel a little slighted in the inside and there was some need to best these deceptive tricksters with some good old-fashion skilled. Besides, she felt that Cynella did win that stuffed ewok fair and square. Perhaps she could have some luck in procuring what was hers?

She strode over to the same booth as a few days ago, perhaps ignoring the snide snicker she might have gotten from the operators. Three balls, three chances.

Clack!
Tunk!
Boom!

Unfortunately for her, even after three attempts, the rigged pyramid of cans would not budge to Aurilie assertions.

Aurilie wasn't the only one striking out on the attempts to win a stuffed toy. Although she was probably taking it better than the man at the end of the row.

A stream of curses was hurled with far more accuracy than the balls that Garth threw, eventually he got pretty close, but the last can wobbled and wobbled, but would not fall.

"Mother Kriffin, frakking cheatin' varmint...blast all them cans with my frakking quad lasers..." He grumbled as he threw his jacket back on and kicked up a cloud of dust in an emotional outburst at his inadequacy.

Feeling rather light hearted today, Jocasta meandered around the fair grounds until she saw a little stuffed Mud Queen Jameela doll that she knew her sister would love.

Stepping up to the stall, she collected her three balls and had a go.

After knocking over a pyramid on her first shot, she haphazardly threw the other two, collected the mini mud queen, and happily continued to browse.

Aurilie didn't curse and make a fuss about it but she was perhaps rather irked internally, likely something that will continue occupying thoughts in her head until she procured said stuffed ewok. Of course, she had more than enough money to buy said toy but that would be conceding, in a while. At least in her mind!

She sighed softly after Garth's trick. "While I'm sure they'll take offence to call them cheaters, there's just something off about the results that don't add up. I'm sure the cans must exist in some different realm where science has no impact. Not a bad try, however."

Turning to the side, she glanced to see Jocasta fare better than the both of them. "Perhaps Miss Jocasta has found a weak point in their defences."

Garth offered a shrug of apology to the carnie, but he just smiled patronisingly, he'd been called far worse in his days and with House Panteer footing the bill for all the entertainment he didn't have to coddle the marks.

"Just hot words from a hot head ma'am," Garth replied to the Prince. "If mah light arms trainin' officer saw that effort ah'd be scrubbin' pots fe ra month."

As he speaks, he hears a clatter of cans and turns to see Jocasta's success. "Seems like that other realm's got itself a visitor." He quips as he applauds Jocasta's efforts.

"Throwing old balls is far different than shooting a blaster, that's for sure," she gave a dismissive shake of her head, perhaps finding some excuse as to why both of them didn't fare that well. "I'm sure that even your officer should understand that the circumstances are a bit stacked against you. I'm sure there isn't a great need off accuracy from throwing a grande either...but something tells me that they'll sooner make a mess of the stand before budging any of those cans so easily."

"I am Aurilie Alde, the Prince of of Mount Joral," she would introduce herself with quick Alderaanian formal bow.

Seeing that her success had a small audience, Jocasta greets them, "How are you two enjoying the activities?"

Reading the room, she looks towards the game and makes a suggestion, "Try aiming for the very base of the pyramid. If you smack them in the middle where you'd think you would get the most solid hit, the bottom cans will wobble, but won't fall."

It seemed it wasn't bad advice, as a fourth player a little down from the trio was having some success knocking the pyramids over. Though in the end he did miss the last shot. Which brought a small frown to his lips. Still he did win a prize of sorts, a plush kilik? Or maybe some other type of insectoid creature. It seemed the Carnies had foisted one of the unpopular prizes off on the young man.

"My time here has been going well, thankful," she said, although she wasn't entirely sure. "House Panteer and the Queen have done a splendid job with the festivities here, although I might have spent my time more in the wilderness in the last few days to get a full grasp of the current events. I see that the twins are in good spirits still, at least."

"Well enough, Lieutenant Jocasta," she said with a thin smile, perhaps still internally seething at the carnie's public grift. "I was here to settle a score but I suppose I might have set my sights too high in more ways than one. One of those stuffed ewoks would have made for a wonderful prize but would require me to knock down all of the cans, which I imagine some are at least held in place with some sort of nail underneath. Surely, that must be the case."

"They're not nailed down, just weighted. See." She picks up another set of balls and throws the first two at the middle of the pyramid so the bottom bottles wobble around, then on the last throw she nails the base of the pyramid to knock them all over.

The carny hands over the stuffed ewok and tells Jocasta to take a hike, no more throws allowed for her.

"Here you go Prince Aurilie." Jocasta presents the stuffed ewok.

"Not impossible," Garth observed, "but looks like there's def'nitely a trick to it."

"Still too tricky for me though." HE admitted, but hopefully his failures showed Aurilie a path to success.

Aurilie could only give an astounded blink as Jocasta seemed to effortlessly show how it was done after her advice. She narrowed her eyes and couldn't help but wonder if there was some House Teraan plot or perhaps Jocasta was in cahoots with the carney. Of course, that would be absolutely silly. She found herself glancing around the fair in reluctance when the stuffed ewok was presented to her.

"I can see how you're a key asset in military strategy...it seems it would be unfair of me to refuse your spoils, especially when you did so on my behalf. Thank you, Lieutenant." She nodded and accept the ewok.

"However, it seems only fair to repay you back somehow, Lieutenant." She gave a tilt of her head at the carnie, considering Jocasta had just been barred for her efforts.

After observing Garth and his given cues, she would once again attempt the game.

And the sage advice from Jocasta and encouragement from Garth really paid off!

She was a bit surprised that she was able to get an ewok of her own! Now with both ewoks in her arms, she perhaps found herself a bit reluctant to hand the other one over. Giving a gift back was also bad form too. "...I will speak kindly in regards to your tactical acumen, Lieutenant. And you as well, Mister Garth."

Garth applauded Aurilie's efforts genuinely. Three throws for three knockdowns, a perfect showing.

"Wond'rful effort, Miss Alde, y' nary missed a shot. Just goes t' show as 'Tenant Terran said, practice makes perf'ct."

"True enough in that regard, Mister Garth. It was a bit of determination, encouragement, opportunity, and of course luck that made it happen. I suppose if I didn't try again then I would be left wondering if I could have ever bested these infernal cans." She smirked with a shrug. "Well, I know of someone who might be pleased with this trophy, thank you for both of your help. Of course, this is only one of many games in this fair. One fight conquered out of a hundred fronts, in a way? On to the next game, then?"

After Aurilie managed the twin ewok plushie in her arms, she nodded in Garth's encouragement at Gil's direction. "Yes, I'd heavily encourage giving it another shot again. Maybe there's also a bit of luck that could be catching here and we might potentially turn the tide against these games."

"Couldn't hurt." Gil replied as he rolled his shoulders and walked towards the booth once again, three balls later he had won a large stuffed Thantra and was asked polietly to try his hand at other games. Not a ban really, but they apparently had enough of Gil winnign prizes.

Aurilie would give a clap at Gil's attempt at the games, which did have a good showing. "Well done. And no thank you, I believe I'm already managing my lot with two ewoks. That might be enough for my evening when it comes to prizes, perhaps what I set to do in the first place. Perhaps you could consider giving it to one of the children? I don't think we've acquainted either...I'm Aurilie Alde, Prince of Mount Joral."

She gave a glance to one of the other games, one where there was a toy rifle that shot darts as a weapon and another where the objective was to hammer down as many womp rats in a short amount of time.

"Gil Corren, I work with House Rist." He replied simply with a respecful nod. "A pleasure to make your acquaitance Prince Aide." At her words he nodded, that was a interesting idea and his eyes scanned the crowd for some children in need of plush toys.

"No more prozes for yourself, but you could always try to win others for children yourself."
