[Day 3 - LM] More Soup for the Soul

Omandri raised an eyebrow "Oh you've head of her? I admit until all this started I had not heard the name." He said as he scrubbed out a bowl

“I can’t really get into it, but suffice to say the Crown is rather aware of her activities,” she responded.

[Omandri Rist]

Omandri frowned in thought for a moment resting his sudsy hands on the edge of the sink "I don't suppose the Crown has been made aware of her activities around the time of the supposed assassination of my Sister?" He asked

“She… acting as an agent of the Sith Empire murdered Galen Rist, and maybe your sister, a member of your house. House Rist has been pursuing the matter for years I guess but the Jedi Order has been… unclear on where they stand on this matter. Claiming she is redeemed. I don’t know, it seems too clean, but it seems weird to allow someone with such a violent past to now just roam free without consequence,” she said honestly.

Unaware of the current conversation about the Jedi, Kat was helping with ladling soup into bowls to be served to the people. Occassionally a guest would come up to speak to her and she'd indulge them with a warm smile and kind words.

“She… acting as an agent of the Sith Empire murdered Galen Rist, and maybe your sister, a member of your house. House Rist has been pursuing the matter for years I guess but the Jedi Order has been… unclear on where they stand on this matter. Claiming she is redeemed. I don’t know, it seems too clean, but it seems weird to allow someone with such a violent past to now just roam free without consequence,” she said honestly.

"Hmmmm" was all he said in response at first then chuckled a little "Well thats about the information we have so far suppose it couldn't be that easy to clear everything up." He said as he got back to scrubbing.

"As far as the Jedi go it seems a complicated matter. They view redemption pretty seriously. Not sure how the code and the order work with fallout from actions while 'fallen' " He said focusing a little on the task of washing.

Jameela called to Kataryzna and said, "Master Jedi, could you answer a burning question for us?"

[Gil Corren]

Gil came in from the back entrance carrying a few supplies for soup making, they'd arrived a bit late and he was helping carry them in. Crowds had been a bit bigger then expected after all, and one could never have enough soup.

A quick glance around told him Omandri hadn't died yet, but that's all he had time for as he moved to bring more things in.

Jameela called to Kataryzna and said, "Master Jedi, could you answer a burning question for us?"

Nodding, Kad made sure someone else was stepping in to fill for her first, then approached the princess and Omandri. "Your highness, sir Omandri, how may I be of assistance?" she asked, giving a bow to the two of them.

The apron detracted a little from the Jedi-look most people had, but she seemed fairly used to wearing one.

Nodding, Kad made sure someone else was stepping in to fill for her first, then approached the princess and Omandri. "Your highness, sir Omandri, how may I be of assistance?" she asked, giving a bow to the two of them.

"What is the Jedi Order's stance on Jedi Knight Hoshin? She does not deny murdering Galen Rist, but has also not been held accountable for it either," she glanced to Omandri and then back, "We were curious where the Order stands on this matter and if they would interfere with justice being served?"

"I believe in redemption but also accountability."

Well that was direct. The question was rather interesting, considering the party it was coming from.

"The Jedi Order believe in redemption, but also accountability, your highness. On the path to redemption, one must make amends for the wrongs committed in the past. However, since House Rist has declared a feud on Knight Hoshin rather than asking her to stand trial, we accept that this is the way House Rist wishes to do this," she remarked calmly, as she had preferred a proper trial instead of this feuding-business herself. Kat clarified: "I was not aware of her actions before Knight Hoshin arrived on Alderaan a couple of days ago, your highness. I think that goes for most of the Jedi present. But as far as I'm aware, Knight Hoshin and Duchess Rist have agreed upon the terms of the feud, so that is where the matter stands now."

Well Aly had known but she had been rather snarky about it instead of adressing it properly.

She looked to Omandri, knowing he knew the same as her that the case was a bit more complicated than that now.

Galen arrived, seeming a bit distracted. He took Kat's place.

Oamndri listened and nodded "As far as I'm aware the assassination of Galen isn't the one that has Duchess Rist taking action. But rather information that she is also responsible for the killing of Viandra Rist our younger sister."

"But that is an interesting matter. How does one make amends for their crimes if they were responsible for murder or the like?" There was no ill will or passion to his question it seemed fairly academic

Oamndri listened and nodded "As far as I'm aware the assassination of Galen isn't the one that has Duchess Rist taking action. But rather information that she is also responsible for the killing of Viandra Rist our younger sister."

"But that is an interesting matter. How does one make amends for their crimes if they were responsible for murder or the like?" There was no ill will or passion to his question it seemed fairly academic

"Knight Hoshin claims to be innocent of the death of Viandra Rist. I believe she is innocent, until proven guilty, of this crime."

She nodded. "As for making amends, it would depend a lot on the circumstances, such as the rules and traditions of the ones who were wronged. Laws vary from place to place in the Republic, and even more outside of it, though I'm not aware of any world with a death penalty within the Republic," Kat explained, but knew she could be mistaken on the death penalty-thing. She had just never encountered it before.

"Jedi are trained from the beginning that to draw our lightsabers is to be a last resort when peaceful approaches have failed, or in defense. The Sith on the other hand encourages a... much more violent approach, where those who are Sith have little consequence if they choose to kill someone, from what I've heard of those who escaped the Sith Order and the Empire. Considering the circumstances of the Sith that shaped and controlled Knight Hoshin's past... I don't think it excuses her actions, but I think it also warrants some respect to see that such a life was wrong and to seek to change herself. Acknowledging that people can change and be better than they were is a step towards a better Galaxy."

[Omandri Rist]

Omandri nodded "I should be clear I personally do not wish for Knight Hoshin's death, even if she were the one that killed Viandra. Knight Hoshin dying will not bring my sister back so further loss of life seems pointless." He said with a frown.

"But I must admit to some curiosity around the Jedi practice of redemption. It is a topic that warrants further study."

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"It would be quite the varied study as each case is different. The one I am most familiar with is Kerren Sek, a pureblooded Sith who ran away from the Empire to escape his master's plans of killing him. He encountered a group of padawans, who took the chance to trust and help a scared enemy."

She seemed almost nostalgic talking about it.

"Thanks to these young padawans, he would begin his path of redemption, and be taken under the wing of a Jedi master. Lessons like trust, friendship, and honesty were difficult ones for him to learn, as these were things he had to be wary of among the Sith; trust was a sure way to be betrayed, friendship was only temporary alliances to be used and discarded, and honesty a rarity."

"I've had the chance of seeing his growth closely over the years, and see him discover a better way of life. Today he is a Jedi Knight."

"But are these Jedi to be held accountable for any actions they did before their redemption? And not just from the Jedi," she asked curiously.

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"I believe so, yes. As does the Order. Though I admit that things get muddy when we look at actions committed in war times. Do we hold soldiers and commanders responsible for the deaths caused in a war? Excluding war crimes for this hypothetical question."

[Omandri Rist]

"Are jedi soldiers though? They are protectors of peace so they claim. But they are not part of the Republic military or governmental structure. They are separate from it and report to their own ruling body. Further the rigors of war seem to be a dangerous thing for the jedi to engage in, the trauma it causes, what can come of that emotional scars, trauma. These things all can lead to a lot of fear anger and darkness. Things that can lead a jedi to fall to the darkside from how I understand it." He lapsed into a thoughtful silence for a moment "it is not that the jedi presence on the battlefield isn't welcome the Empire regularly fields Sith that are difficult to deal with but I wonder long term if it is healthy for jedi to be engaged in this kind of conflict."

"Some Jedi go to war, some do not. It is an individual choice, because as you said, war poses many risks. Those who do go work alongside the military. Some Jedi have held ranks of command as well... perhaps this is something to bring to the Jedi council next time I speak with them, to bring clarity to it."

OOC: the laws preventing jedi from holding titles and rank, including military, is something that happen with the Ruusan Reformation 2000+ years from this timeline. I think this is how it is in this timeline but I could be wrong.

“Thankfully it seems the Jedi have the wisdom to navigate these challenging issues. I am concerned by the issue around Jedi Knight Layne Hoshin, but it seems the Jedi are aware of the matter. I trust their judgment,” she finished.
