[Day 3 - LM] More Soup for the Soul

[Lana Beniko]

Lana listened politely to the talk.

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

“Thankfully it seems the Jedi have the wisdom to navigate these challenging issues. I am concerned by the issue around Jedi Knight Layne Hoshin, but it seems the Jedi are aware of the matter. I trust their judgment,” she finished.

"We thank you for your trust, your highness. The Jedi Order strive to listen to the concerns people may have, so that we may work together. The Republic gives us much trust and respect, but we must always be mindful not to take it for granted and become tyrants ourselves. Peaceful cooperation and mutual respect is a two-way street after all."

[Galen Sol]

Galen continued to give out soup, hearing snippets of the conversation here and there. It was hard not to after hearing his name and assassination uttered in the same sentence.

[Count Serenno]

The Count must have overheard something too but it didn't affect his soup serving routine, nor did it change his charismatic smile.

Lana said, “The Galactic Republic prides itself on being a community bound by law, under civilian rule. The Jedi ae a separate Order tied to the Republic but seem to exist above it’s laws in some respects. I am curious why such redeemed Jedi are given such leniency when if they were not Jedi they would be subjected to the courts and made to serve time for crimes committed, during war or otherwise.”

She continued, “Redemption is all well and good, but that redemption seems to favor Jedi who get to keep a powerful user in play even after they have committed horrendous actions.”

“I could be misunderstanding though, your majesty, master Jedi.”

Kat idly entertained the idea of hosting a Jedi Q&A someday soon, considering all the talking about she had done today and yesterday.

"Lord Beniko's questions are valid," she acknowledged the Sith lord, a touch cooly perhaps but still polite and with a bow. "You have it right that the Jedi are a separate Order, but we do not exist above the law. But as I touched upon, each case is different and varied, and must be considered individually. Regarding Knight Hoshin, that one is now currently adhering to the tradition and customs of Alderaan. The Republic have common laws, but there are variations and differences from planet to planet. The way matters are handled on Corellia is different from Alderaan - given our unique position, one I won't deny comes with some privileges that the Republic allows us, it's important that we respect the local authorities and local laws on the worlds we visit. We are not infallible beings, however. If you wish, I could search the Jedi Libraries for cases of Jedi standing trial for their actions."

"I'm afraid I can't go into depth regarding Knight Hoshin's case, as I do not have all the details and it was only something I was made aware of just recently myself. My apologies, Lord Beniko."

[Gil Corren]

Gil was listening into the case he after all was around, not that he was saying much as usual though. He knew a very little about the case with Layne, but it seemed unwise to get between the Jedi and the Sith. Instead he walked towards the serving line putting on an apron along th way and lookign for someone not involved in the conversation asked.

"Where do you need me today?"

[Galen Sol]

"There's plenty of soup to ladle." Galen suggested. "Or, tables to clear. Anywhere you'd like, really."

[Lana Beniko]

Lana nodded and said, "I understand your point, master Jedi. Thank you."

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"You're welcome, Lord Beniko. It might be different in the Empire's territories, but death penalties or similar punishments are rare in the Republic. Not unheard of, but rare, some worlds have abolished it all-together." Kat considered asking if Lana would explain why the Empire let Sith go around murdering as they pleased without reprecussions legally, but... no, it wasn't why she was here today. It was a conflict she didn't want right now.

"Shall we return to doing the good work?" she asked, looking to the group.

[Lana Beniko]

"Just Lana is fine, or Beniko," she replied. "I have no love of personal titles."

[Omandri Rist]

Omandri had gotten a little lost in the discussion hanging back and letting the two discuss it. When Kat suggested they return to the work Omandri nodded "Yes of course I apologize for bringing up the topic that dragged so many away." He said as he returned so cleaning the dishes that had undoubtedly piled up while they talked.

"But thank you Knight Ulgo for your insights." He looked over his shoulder at the princess "and thank you for listening." He finished warmly.

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"Lana then. You may adress me as you like, what makes you most comfortable," she gave a nod to the Sith.

And thankfully Omandri agreed on getting back to work. "You're welcome, and... thank you. I'm not well used to being a debater or fielding questions like these, but I hope it was useful. Though if this happens a third day in a row, I think I might just consider hosting a panel," she added with a chuckle. "Or maybe I'll ask Padawan Daz to make a video about it. I hear those are popular."

[Blai Frayus]

Although his player was afk for too long to actually pay appropriate attention to the thread, Blai definitely showed up to help serve soup to the people again. Jameela seemed to be quite busy working and talking, so he mostly kept his attention to the work today - and his mind seemed to be taken with some other matters after the surprises of this morning...

[Gil Corren]

"There's plenty of soup to ladle." Galen suggested. "Or, tables to clear. Anywhere you'd like, really."

"I've always wondered, why soup." Gil replied as he fell into ladel.

"Though I suppose it is warm and filling and fairly easy to make. It just seems odd that it's always soup."

[Galen Sol]

"It's simple to make in large quantities and a wide range of ingredients can be used." Galen shrugged. "It's easy to keep it warm, too."

[Dapper Dog]

OOC: Brannis Ulgo, Nudimsu, and Kellen Rist Jameela did not like that. Galen Sol, Count Serenno, Blai Frayus, Gil Corren, and Omandri Rist Jameela liked that.

"It's simple to make in large quantities and a wide range of ingredients can be used." Galen shrugged. "It's easy to keep it warm, too."

A good point, though i do wonder if pancakes are out of the range sometimes...

"Especially in these early morning hours."

"It would take a bit more work, but it's not a bad idea." Galen nodded. "A pancake breakfast would be great."
