Complicated Connections (D2, MA. Kat's room)

After the rather embarrassing go at poetry, Kat had returned to the more humble lodgings offered to the Jedi.

The lightsaber at least didn't hold any judgement as she made small but noticeable adjustments to the grip.

[Zayne Rist]

Zayne knocked on the door of the room that he believed was Katarzya's. "Ms. Katarzyna." He looks around the hallway.

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

Picking up her saber and placing it in its holster, Katarzyna rose and opened the door. "... Jedi Zayne Rist was it? Good afternoon." She took a step back, allowing him entry into the room. "Do come in."

While these rooms were supposed to be the simpler ones, they were still quite fanciful for those used to the more spartan accomodations of the Jedi Temple. "What brings you to me today?"

[Zayne Rist]

"Hello. Yes, its something of great importance." He closed the door behind him. He's in the Rist regalia and lightsaber.

"So, this would involve our favorite former Sith, Layne. And, the credibility of one Bilyana Ulgo. And, of course this deals with the Duchess Rist accusations." He looked at the room a minute, then looked back at Kat.

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

Kat took a calming deep breath and sat down, inviting Zayne to take a seat too.

"What does these accusations have to do with Bilyana Ulgo?"

[Zayne Rist]

He seat down in a chair near by. "Well, he is the one who gave the information that Layne is the person who killed the Duchess's sister. And, he gave the Duchess this info recently."

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"She," Kat corrected. "Baroness Bilyana Ulgo. She is a close confidante of Duke Bouris Ulgo, practically almost like a daughter to him." Which in a way almost made her family too.

"Are you claiming she has given Duchess Rist false information? That is... troubling." She didn't seem offended by the implication, but more worried.

[Zayne Rist]

"Well, false information, yes. But, she may believe is correct. Layne admits killing Galen Rist, but says she had nothing to do with the Duchess's sister's death. I met Layne on her ship yesterday after the brunch, and she struck me as someone who wouldn't lie about anything. She seems to a very transparent person, also full of bluster. But, I do not believe she has one deceptive in her body." He said.

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"Hmmm... I am in agreement with you. Knight Layne, for all her faults, does not seem like a deceptive woman, and I have no reason to believe she would lie about one but not the other. I'm also not in habit of accusing my fellow Jedi of lying."

Her long fingers drummed against the armrest of her chair. "So then the baroness either provided false intel to the duchess. Or was given bad intel herself. Both could be possible. Baroness Bilyana runs intel operations for House Ulgo, so she isn't nescessarily the one procuring all the information personally."

[Zayne Rist]

"Alright, we are in agreement then about Knight Layne." He said with a bit of relief in his voice. "But, the Duchess's vendetta is still on until I can find out the trust, or at least absolve Layne of any wrong doing." He starting to think. "Well, for this."

"Honestly, I was a little shocked to hear the Duchess saying Ulgo." He admitted.

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"I'm not." Her brows furrowed slightly. There seemed to be a lot of things coming from Ulgo these days, and she wasn't sure what to think of it. "House Rist and House Ulgo are allies."

"Do you plan to speak with the baroness? You could honestly ask her for more about the intel, saying you are doing so on behalf of your duchess."

[Zayne Rist]

"Yes, the houses are allies. But, if were from Thul or some much, it might be easier to find a motive. This may mean its something more personal, not political."

"Well, I am fully invested with this, even if it ends up in a wild goose chase." He shrugged. "Layne has not even seem to care if she dies in two days or not."

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"I think she cares, but knows her own strengths and weaknesses. Her strength being in that she believes in herself to face whatever warriors Rist send against her. Her weakness being that she knows she doesn't understand Alderaanian politics, the current political landscape, and isn't an investigator," Kat says, sharing her assessement of Layne Hoshin.

"I can give you a writ of confidence that I vouch for you and that you are a Knight of the Jedi Order, for you to show at Castle Ulgo. Hopefully it will let you arrive as a respect guest at the very least, but I can't guarantee that Baroness Bilyana will be available. She is a busy woman after all."

[Zayne Rist]

"And, I was a child for most of the time I am spent on this planet. I have spent my recent time here with the military. I am working on being an Arbiter and the fragments I can remember of the political landscape of Alderaan as an 8 year old right now." He realized he was starting to drone on about nothing.

"Sorry, thank you for your time, Knight Katarzyna. It was a pleasure to see you again. I hope it will help clearing Knight Layne's name." He stood, gave her a bow, and moved to the door.

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"No need to apologise, Jedi Zayne," Kat reassured him, but was surprised at the conversation being cut short. "I will have the writ of confidence sent to your datapad then."

"Is there anything else I can do to be of assistance?"

[Zayne Rist]

"Oh, I am just whinging that I am getting thrown into the fire on the most cutthroat political landscape in the galaxy with no time to compare now. Fighting against the Sith Empire is less deadly. I was expecting to spend some time paying my respects to House Rist for armor I was given after mine was badly damaged. That is all." He gave her a small smile.

He pulled out his mercantiler datapad. "Hum, I do not know what else I may need at this point. I just need to clear Jedi Layne's name by the end of the day tomorrow. Or, at least cast enough doubt to who killed the Duchess's sister."

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

She looked at him curiously. "Surely you knew the circumstances before coming to Alderaan, no? Did not the Council send you here?"

[Zayne Rist]

"Hum, what? I was here as part of the Republic Special Forces, right before the battle here. I have been here ever since putting fires out. No interference with the line of succession and we are peacekeepers trying to keep a civil war from starting. I was trying to make a little joke about the Alderaan politics." He said looking at her. "Did I miss something important? I am been working to clean Layne's name the last few days, and I frequently have a one track mind, working on one task, until it is finished."

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"Sounds like you've had time to familiarize yourself with the landscape then."

Perhaps humourous whinging was lost on her?

"May the Force be with you in your quest, Jedi Zayne."

[Zayne Rist]

"And to you as well, Jedi Katarzyna." He said. He put his datapad back in jacket pocket again.

He had decided not quibble with the differences with working with Republic troops verses Alberaan Defense Forces with the aristocracy.
