(D1 MM, Open) Saint of Lost Causes

Tethys paces, leisurely, around the plinth holding the humanoid statue. Flowers bloom at its base... except for the spot where trampling tourists wanting to kiss the figure's feet have made it impossible for plants to survive, and a sensible patch of white gravel has been put down instead.

The mystery saint is quite enigmatic, really. Does the statue represent a real person? If so, what did they (she?) do in life to be immortalized as a patron of lovers, here on a planet with little in the way of formally structured religious practice?

The tall Jedi is half contemplating these questions, half enjoying the pleasant morning sunlight as she strolls.

So tall.

So majestic.

So much Jedi.

Play it cool and just do the thing.

Jerri was already halfway through the book but he needed more... more material.

Playing it cool he cleared his throat and said, "Master Jedi... have... have you... can you help me?"

Smooth.

Tethys turns to see who's speaking, her expression calm but open. "Help you? Yes, probably... help with what?"

The young man doesn't look in immediate distress, although he doesn't exactly look at ease either.

"How does the Force work? How does it feel?" he asked.

"Oh." Well, that went in an unexpected direction. Tethys's brows arch a little, then draw down again. "Do you mean... hm. Well, how much time have you got?"

She props her shoulder against one of the arbor columns lining the clearing, hands still tucked into her pockets. "Your question isn't as simple as it sounds, but I imagine you know that already. Hundreds of living Masters, thousands of holocrons from hundreds of generations... they'll all give you different answers. Long ones. All of them just pieces of the picture." A corner of her lips twitches up. "Is there somewhere smaller you'd like to start?"

"Like when Jedi lift things, how does that feel?" he replied.

"With your mind powers."

"Hmm." Tethys closes her eyes for a moment with an expression of cool concentration. Opening them again, she asks, "Have you ever been swimming in an ocean? A large lake would do, too."

"I can't swim, but I have been in a large tub," he responded.

"I'm... not sure that's quite the same. Maybe?" Tethys purses her lips a bit. "When you're underwater, you can still see and hear, more or less. You also feel the water moving, feel the currents flowing around everything else nearby. The Force flows something like that, in and around living things. You can move your hand in the water and change the shape of the currents around you. Sometimes enough to affect other things nearby."

She untucks one hand from its pocket and gestures as if flicking an invisible drop of water. Nothing else happens, though. Soemtimes the Force is like that too.

"I didn't see anything happen," he said with confusion.

"If I demonstrate, would that really help you understand what it feels like? The action of the Force doesn't always look like much. Sometimes it flows in harmony with one's intentions. Other times, the patterns are set, and resist being disturbed without a good reason."

"I guess not, I am curious about Jedi and love, how does that work? This is a romance festival after all... right?" he asked. "You ever fall in love?"

"Do the Hutt's tango?"

Smooth.

"I'm an indifferent dancer at best," Tethys confesses, only the slightest twitch of her lips betraying that she might realize he wasn't talking about literal tango dancing.

"As for falling in love... that's a rather personal question from a being who hasn't introduced himself yet, isn't it?" The cool half-smile grows a little more pronounced.

"Jerri Organa," he finally offered as if weighing to answer.

"I'm a writer. Jedi in the Sheets, The Padawan Who Loved Us, My Wookiee, my Master... any of these ring a bell? I'm a digital best seller."

"I'm sorry, no," she says, her tone somewhat apologetic. "It's my first time in-system here." Unless he meant the interstellar bestseller list? Either way, the titles didn't ring a bell...

"Well, um, good morning. Mr. Organa. I'm Tethys Carrack."

...Wait, the book is called what?

"I was sure my books would be popular with Jedi, curious," he said more to himself.

"Well I am working on a new book, and gathering source material."

"And that's why you asked about...?" Tethys opens a hand in a sort of 'all that' gesture.

"Yes, if I am going to base a character on you I want to know as much as I can," he said honestly.

Tethys's eyebrows arch so high at this that they seem to be making a break for her hairline. "You're going to what? Why?"

Jerri has succeeded in doing... well, not the impossible, by any means, but at least the unusual, cracking her usual air of cool distance for a moment. Genuine startlement and confusion flashes through.

"Because... well, I need a scene that has raw passion, and a Jedi that can tame that passion and hold her victim against the wall..."

"It's far more erotic in the book. I dare say, it's rather Forceful," he said proud of his pun.
