[D6 EA] Punching Above Your Weight

Garth was a little tired, a late night last night, and a mission this morning that kept him on edge was starting to show on him, but he'd done more on less sleep before.

Turning up in daggy sweatpants and singlet, Garth looked around the room for Breela, but she told him she kept weird hours, so settled into just skipping some rope for now, hoping to sweat his way through his fatigue.

Breela walked through the door looking freshly showered and in her workout gi. "Hey Garth! Sorry if I'm late. Mud has an uncomfortable way of getting everywhere." She smiled easily placing her gym bag over in the corner. "And I see you don't waste time." As she went through her pre-workout stretches she continued, "We've got an hour before the class starts to arrive if you want to go over some things."


OOC: There are bags in the gym, as well as training dummies that go up in difficulty from 1eD to 3eD. Then of course there's plenty of room for a sparring session.

Garth was working up a nice little sweat when Breela appeared. Slowing his pace as he listened, he put the rope to one side when she finished.

"Sure, ah'd rather embarrass m'self in private anyway." He laughed as he headed towards one of the easier bags and took up a rudimentary stance, although his weight was a little too far over his toes.

"Any tips are more'n welcome."

"Ohhhh boy," She says seeing what she had to work with. "First off loosen up." She manipulated his arms and center as she spoke. "Chin pressed against your shoulder, other hand up to protect your face. Stay relaxed and centered. To make it easier to alternate your feet think up. Keep your weight down on the balls."

She steps back and nods. "Okay, let me see what you got. Show me a jab, cross, hook combo."

Garth let Breela correct his stance, moving him around like one of her training dummies.

He listened closely to the instructions and complied as best he was able, despite the clumsy stance, he wasn't half bad.

"Like this?" He asks as he runs through the combo a couple of times.

D6 EA Brawl in gym: 3eA+1eD 1 success, 4 advantage

"Not bad, not bad. I can see some marked improvement in your stance." The stance wasn't innate yet obviously, and he fell out of it the second his arms started flying. But there was a desire to improve which was the important thing.

Boxing Training: 4eP+1eF+1eD 2 successes, 2 advantage, 1 Triumph, 2 Light Side


"Resume the stance and go for a jab, jab, cross, jab, cross, hook combo." She takes the same stance to demonstrate. "Keep everything loose, stay relaxed. Fighting is equal parts physics and artistry." She flows through the combo at half speed and continues. "Force equals mass times acceleration, and as you can see what I lack in mass, I make up for in acceleration." She runs the strikes once more a little faster. "Tension creates drag, drag reduces speed. So stay lose and pull your arms together as if they were naturally guided by a rope and pulley." Then the third time she runs the combo full speed. "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast." She nods at Garth, "Your turn."

OOC: Triumph and light side to upgrade your check 3 times, on top of the boosts from your last round.

Precision was far more in Garth's wheelhouse than power, but those instructions were complicated. He manages to keep his elbows in, protect his head and land a nice little combination or two.

Eventually after a few passes, his movements become a little faster. Not in the realm of Breela's but better than a true novice.

"Y' weren't joking Miss Breela, ye're a good teacher."

"Excellent work!" She beamed, "I can see some real improvement."

"I'd bet that with a couple of months of dedicated practice I could turn you into one of the best bar brawlers that ever lived." She teased. "Of course the best is still yours truly." She winked.

As they continued working on the bag. "Sooo..." Breela continued conversationally, "I saw you and Miyi at the Flower Court yesterday. I have to admit you make a cute pair. You guys getting serious?"

"Excellent work!" She beamed, "I can see some real improvement."

"Maybe," Garth replied briefly as he concentrated on his form laying a series of body blows into the bag before him. "Ah don think ah'd be able t' devote the time to it though. This is nice but ah've got a lot going on right now, ah got me an audition fer Ghost Squadron ah need t' practice fer. Ah'm still comin' t' terms with this Force thing and then..."

As they continued working on the bag. "Sooo..." Breela continued conversationally, "I saw you and Miyi at the Flower Court yesterday. I have to admit you make a cute pair. You guys getting serious?"

Garth's face is flushed, mostly from the workout, but also about the question. "Well, she's one of th' things ah'm workin' on...no that sounds not right. We're figurin' out where we stand t'gether. Got dinner at her chalet t'night which'll be nice."

He takes a break for a second, breathing heavily. "You an' the doc getting close? Or as close as ye'd like anyway, since y/ obviously ain't a thing?" Garth asks with a hint of sarcasm.

"Oh ho ho ho, ouchh," she jokes, "I see you've mastered the riposte..." She drifts off and crosses her arms with a soft smile. "He-" she sighs, "he wants other things. We're just not good for each other long term." She bites her lips and her face is otherwise impassible. "Besides I'm getting to old to have kittens. And well, even if we did... hybrids are..." Her voice trails off, "It's just a bad idea."

She turns back to Garth with a grin, "But you two!" She chuckles, "I don't know I guess I see that you're otherwise a nice guy. I kind of feel a little protective of you. Not sure why since we barely know each other." She shrugs, "I just, I'm curious what Miyi is like I guess."

"Wait... force? You're force sensitive?"

"Kids're, well, not fer everyone. Y'can always adopt though if ye're keen on th' idea, cos there's a lot of displaced kids out there who lost them's own family." Garth lays a supporting arm around Breela's shoulder. "An ah think ya'd make a right whizzz mom. Ah don' know where ah'd be today if a good family hadn' taken me in when ah were a babe."

"Y' definitely got that protective vibe, even fer a stranger like me." Garth adds before he takes a different topic. "But Miyi, she's, well there's an innoc'nce there that ah guess...well it don' gel with he family reputation. It's sweet, an endearing, an it don' hurt that she's cute as a button."

"Wait... force? You're force sensitive?"

"Yeah only found out a handful o' years ago though. Knight Lunda and Knight Carrack helped me figure it out, an' th' last few years on Bankor ah've had some guidance from Knight Carrack and th' natives."

Her ears sink sadly and she quickly chokes down the tears before they can surface. "That's- that's not a bad idea. Sorry!" She forces a smile. "I- for some reason I never considered that you were adopted." She continued back onto the topic of Miyi to save herself from dwelling, "Also I- well I guess that was the reason I was worried. Deserved or not the Thul reputation precedes itself." She thinks on it some more, "Is she one of Zeno's kids?" She asks honestly curious.

"Y' got nothin' t' apologize fer Bree." Garth consoles the emotional woman, happy to let Breela lead the conversation to a safe space for her.

"Nah, she's th Duchesses niece, so 's far as ah c'n tell grade A one hundred percent Alderaanian breeding." He grins. "None o' that Sith blood in her that ah know of, but we're still icebergs, findin' out 'bout each other. We got a lot in common, but a lot o' obstacles too. An Ulgo and a Thul; in this climate? Who woulda thunk it?"

She chews on a thought for a minute, at last saying, "I see."

"Well," she breathes, "You've got dinner with her tonight. So be yourself, be honest, but above all be naughty on the sly. Then when she's feeling randy encourage her to open up to you." She laughed and continued to tease, "Take advantage of that bad-boy charm you've got. Women go crazy for it! Not to mention you'd be amazed at the things people will say when they're cooking." She went on without mercy.

"Ah've got dinner t' look forward to fer sure, but we're not alone. Xero Thul is hosting, so ah might have t' be a little subtler. Getting her t' open up sounds nice though. Ah think she's the first girl ah've met who wants t' talk about me more'n herself."

Garth grabs a towel from a nearby rack to wipe himself down as they chat friendly.

"Shows how much courtly intrigue I get up to, I don't even know who Xero is. Another Sith?" She walks over to unlock her office door. "I got some beer in the mini fridge if you want one?"

"Y' know ah probably shoulda jumped on th' holonet and looked 'im up, but ah don' think so. I do think he's hidin' some sorta secret behind that mask though."

Garth pulls out his datapad and punches up a local search engine, trying to find what he can about Xero Thul. At the offer of the beer, he contemplates it for a second before nodding his assent. Not a smart decision on lack of sleep and right on the back of a heavy workout, but Garth was full of bad decisions.

She turns the key and opens the door, picks up an object off the floor, then throws her bag on the couch before reaching into the mini fridge. "Help yourself! I've also got some energy drinks in here if you'd prefer, and cold caf." She pulls out a beer for herself, "Luckily the kids aren't set to come in today so I can chill. Specialists only for the advanced class."

The office has a couch, a coffee table, a couple of chairs opposite her desk. A filing cabinet, some basic office electronics, a few scrolls on the walls, and the usual framed accoutrements that accompany a place of business. The only unique thing that stands out is a small shrine with incense and a picture of what looks like Breela, her husband, and both of her children. It looks like a nice day in the park.

Garth looks at what his searching retrieved, shakes his head and tosses his datapad on the desk. "Well tha's less th'n helpful. Dolls? Really?" He mumbles to himself before grabbing one of the offered beers and dropping into a chair.

Breela read the page with a dumbfounded look. "Ummmm," she said incredulously. Assuming he meant the photo of Xero, Breela snicker-snorts then covers her mouth. "Force that's embarrassing. So two questions, who is this guy?! Also... will you introduce me at some point?"
