[D4MA] Keeping In Touch

Aly's eyes widened. She wasn't aware of the name, but it seemed to hold some significance.

Niall paused a moment, noting the reactions, but then he went on. "I do." He said. "I had T7 investigate the holonet. There is some talk that The Cunning Man was the one who arranged to have Tuvi killed."

He spread his hands. "It's not much, especially since we have so little information on him. But, well, it would at least begin to answer the question of who is behind the protestors." He sighed. "If only we knew whose side The Cunning Man was on."

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"Their own side, if I were to guess. At least according to Knight Layne Hoshin."

Kat sighed. She had no idea what her fellow Jedi were thinking just randomly passing sensitive information to her and the others like that, with little context as to why or giving a full picture.

"I'd say it's best you talk with Baesal Zyn, or Layne Hoshin. They seem more aligned with knowledge about this."

Niall made a face. "Layne? Really?" After a moment, he chuckled. "In fact, she does owe me a favor. Perhaps I will bring this up with her, then."

He looked at Kat. "Whoever this Cunning Man is, I think they may be the key to what's going on." He smiled wryly again. "And that 'they' is doing a lot of work. Even Republic intelligence didn't have anything on them, except that they're probably a group, not just a single person."

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"I don't know what they know, but they've been sending me messages today about some pretty wild stuff. I am half-suspecting that their accounts have been hacked so I haven't responded to them, because what they've been saying is some pretty outlandish stuff, and I hope they have some evidence of it," she said with a heavy sigh. "We can't be jumping at shadows in times like these. Not when the lives of so many depend on our actions."

Niall half-smiled, half-grimaced. "I rather hope so too. I don't want to go to some of the most powerful people on the planet and tell them that The Cunning Man is orchestrating this conflict, and not have anything else to show for it."

He took a deep breath. "Were you able to find anything from the protestors?"

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"Quite. I trust my fellow Jedi, but we can't just expect everyone to believe this Cunning Man is behind it all. Even I have a hard time believing it." For Kat it was less a matter of suspecting her fellow Jedi of lying, and being more concerned with how they could possibly act on this kind of information.

"Yes." The shift on topics brought the regular Kat back, more confident in her speech yet also thoughtful. "Not much, but it did give a lead. From my conversation with them, it seems Tuvi was the peaceful leader of their movement, not wanting to instigate violence... but a man named Julio was one who would show up in person and fan the flames, so to speak. One of the protestors there was willing to try to lead us to him. It would require them to be released and be given enough freedom to contact Julio for a meeting, but I believe they had a good point that it will be hard to pin him down on our own - we need someone Julio will trust."

She looked at Niall. "I wanted to speak with you first on that, before making the call myself. I have a feeling it will be a trap, but sometimes the risk might be worth taking."

[Niall Organa]

"Julio..." Niall echoed that, then frowned. "Yes. According to my info, he's a former Ulgo soldier, who did not part with them on the best terms." He grimaced. "Taking a chance to make trouble with a former employer? Although if Duke Bouris appreciates the protestors, there's always the possibility that Julio isn't on such bad terms with Ulgo after all. But that seems like the less likely possibility."

He glanced at Aly, then frowned at Kat. "If the protesters are willing to cooperate, I would recommend extremely light sentences for them. Perhaps just community service. Ultimately, we don't want to punish those who were tricked into violence. We want those who tricked them."

His thoughtful frown deepened. "We'll want to do what we can to make sure this person is telling the truth. Confirm their identity, and their place of residence at least."

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"I suspect that the Duke is not responsible, directly or indirectly with the protestors, but that he's merely pleased to benefit from their momentum. Though I admit I could be wrong... you don't live that long with Alderaanian politics without learning a few tricks," Kat admitted sourly. It was hard to suspect her family of being responsible for this.

"The name of our volunteer is Casondra Rulk, if you want to run the system on the name." As a Major, she figured Niall had more resources on his disposal for that. "But yes, I figure their sentence will be light, once we can get the ones behind this. These are just people who are frustrated, scared, and angry, and someone is taking advantage of that. It's almost like out of the playbook of some Sith, but I don't think we're doing ourselves a service here by just assuming it's the Empire responsible."

Slowly, Niall nodded. "I think perhaps we should try. If this Julio fellow is promoting violence, he's not going to stop just because a few of the people he used were arrested. My guess is that he will turn to more dangerous acts next." He frowned. "Perhaps something targeting the Panteer or Ulgo, to cast more blame on the Thul."

He sighed. "I wish we knew if Julio was an important member of this group, or merely the next level up. I imagine it will be quite a bit harder to make a similar sort of deal with him."

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"Maybe. It's not unlikely that he is merely doing the job of instigator on behalf of someone else, though that is also guess work. It's... really important that he is apprehended for questioning."

They really needed to know more.

"I'll seek out Zeno Thul later, see if he knows anything more about the protesters."

[Niall Organa]

"Oh, yes, Zeno. Do you know what their deal is?" Niall paused. "Wait, no, Zeno is the one who assisted the prince yesterday. Perhaps he's alright."

Niall cleared his throat. "The other one. Xero Thul? Do you know what their deal is?" Niall glanced at Aly. "Xero is the one who asked Aly to look into the protestors. I wonder what else they know?"

"This is not a person I know. Is it someone I should be aware of?" She looked at Aly for her to fill in.
