What's in a Name [Day 6, EA]

[Riss]

Waking all the way into the afternoon Riss got herself dressed, and a couple messages sent out. One of the easiest and most ready was Niall, whom she had a future curiosity with. There was something of an opportunity here, a chance to really come home and be the one calling the shots. She couldn't lie that it wasn't a little enticing. Even if there was much she'd have to give up to take it. Still, moving forward she'd get the answers she needed to make the decision.

For better or worse.

Arriving at Niall's office door she makes herself known and waits. Glancing up and down both sides of the hall with her hand resting passively on the blaster at her hip.

[Niall Organa]

A moment, and the door slid open.

A freshly washed Niall was sitting at the desk, hair still slightly damp. He looked up gesturing with a smile to one of the chairs. "Captain Riss. Please, have a seat."

He rose, eyebrows going up slightly as he noted her stance. "May I get you anything?" Cameras were set to provide view, no audio.

[Riss]

As the door opens she turns to Niall. Walking in she offers a smile, a nod. "Do you have a caf ready? Could really use one after the night I've had," she says, taking one of the seats at his desk.

Niall's eyebrows went a little further up. "Oh? Of course." Walking over to the credenza, he poured kaf from a pot, first one mug, than another.

Holding one close to his chest, he offered her the second. "You too, eh? What happened?"

[Riss]

"Just.. the chaos of my life," she chuckles, taking the offered mug into hand. Wrapping her fingers around it she taps along the outside, looking down into it as she says, "But- that's not what I'm here about today. I'm here.. cause I actually think you might be able to help me figure something out, mm?" she suggests, shifting a little in her seat to more appropriately face him. Giving herself something of a more proper appearance.

Taking a sip from the mug she continues, "I'm trying to figure out what reclaiming my name looks like, our name. I'm.. Riss Lanar, of House Lanar and right now the eldest of us on the planet," she chuckles awkwardly.

[Niall Organa]

Niall looked at her a long moment, then took an equally long sip of his kaf.

"What proof do you have?" He finally said. "The more you have, the easier it will be. But the short answer is that it will require recognition by the crown." He smiled. "That condensed about a hundred steps into a single sentence, but really, that is the short answer."

[Riss]

"Got plenty," she says, pulling a different blaster than the one she normally carries with her and lays it on the table. On it, the crest of House Lanar even if the blaster has seen some years someone knowledgeable enough would be able to recognize it.

"Father gave me that blaster when I was old enough. But that's just the physical thing I came here with. Got recognition from the Queen on down," she says with a slight smirk. "If you need just make a call to almost anybody," she says with a half chuckle.

"Can rattle off a few names of it helps, or you can do whatever searching you like," she says, looking to the table and considering kicking her feet up again but she abstains from it.

Niall's eyebrows went up again. "The queen has already recognized your claim? That's certainly a good first step."

He considered a moment, then spread his hands, still holding his mug. "If the Queen issues a proclamation recognizing your claim, that's as official as it gets. Beyond that... what does House Lanar mean to you?"

[Riss]

"She's referred to me as Riss of House Lanar so.. can't imagine it would be too much to ask for," she says, a slightly half awkward chuckle as she gives herself the space of time it offers to consider the other option. Leaning foreward onto her knees, forearms against them she looks down at her own interlocked hands. Thinking before she raises her head again, "Kind of a loaded question," another distracting chuckle. "It's.. a lot of things. Things I grew up hating and loving. Home. Family. Problems, old and more recent," she shrugs.

"It's.. mine," she chuckles, leaning back in her seat again but not before taking her blaster and fitting it back to her hip. "But.. maybe it's possibility. Met someone that's got me thinking. Now that I'm sitting here.. I'm thinking a little more. When I'm done, I want somewhere I can come back to. Somewhere I can settle into and spend the rest of my life trying to build, I think. I'm.. not the gushy type to want a family to run away with into a hole somewhere but- the Lanar? I could do that. I could manage that."

"But, I want to know how the Organa might be able to help make that possible. What you're all willing to do to help make that possible. Right now Lanar is just a name that brings problems, something me and my siblings carry around for better or worse."

[Niall Organa]

Slowly, Niall nodded. "That's the first step, then. A proclamation from the Queen. It's rather more official than her calling you that. Her calling me Captain Alderaan doesn't actually grant me a title. Thankfully." He smiled at that.

His expression grew a trifle more serious, his chin tilting upwards. "Restoring your House is rather more than having a home. If the latter is all you want, I could possibly help you with that." He made a vague wave with his hand. "Remember what I talked about with Vaki? Responsibilities? That's what comes with restoring your house."

He sighed. "And yes, power as well. But the responsibilities are perhaps more important."

[Riss]

"I have no misconception about who I'm speaking with Major," she says with a light laugh as she gives a slight shake to her head. Arms laid out to her sides on the arms of the chair she relaxes back, kicking up one leg over the other and resting it along her knee. "You're not smarmy enough to be a realtor."

"Unlike Vaki, and what you didn't know at the time is that I grew up here Major. I know this planet, it's my home. I know what I'm asking for.. I just want to know if you're willing to be a part of it."

[Niall Organa]

Slowly, Niall nodded. "If the Queen makes a proclamation, we will back it, of course. And while I cannot promise unconditional support, I can certainly say that we would support you as we could."

He titled his head, regarding her. "Are there any House Lanar lands? Do you know what their current disposition is?"

Slowly, he shook his head. "I didn't realize you were from Alderaan. Well, that's rather a surprise."

[Riss]

"Comes with the whole surprise about me being a Lanar thing," she chuckles, shifting forward again she digs her elbow into one arm and rests her hand in her palm. Shaking her head, "Not.. anymore. Originally there were. My father was one of Thul's vassals, we had lands under them. When they came back, I'm fuzzy on the details but most of my family is gone. Thul crushed them.. scattered the rest of my family. Mom and Dad for certain, heard that much from Bo," she sighs.

"I wasn't here when it happened," she admits. "Considering they wanted my family exterminated.. probably best bet I avoid asking for those back," she chuckles again, there's less mirth to it this time.

[Niall Organa]

"I'm sorry." Niall said, his tone making it clear that he meant it.

He pursed his lips. "Once the Queen makes her proclamation, what do you intend?"

[Riss]

"Depends on what I have to work with," she offers with a shrug. Glancing around his office space she looks for whatever notes around she can pick up on, little quirks to his character. "Right now.. it'd just be me, with a recognized name. That's.. not much to work with. Need lands to have a title, right?" she says, flashing a grin as she stands up and walks over to his desk. Walking along the outside of it as she observes the knickknacks he might have there.

"So.. first thing? Probably talk to people. Finish out this little festival we've got and then.. put in a bit of work doing what I do best, talking to people. It's half the work, mm?" she says, another glance toward him with a raise brow. Crossing along an open space of the room toward the nearest picture she might find and taking a good look at it.

"You say Organa would support me as you could. How far are you willing to go?" she asks, with an almost idle tone as she lays her head into a raised palm.

[Niall Organa]

Niall frowned. "I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, Riss. House Organa supports the Queen, the laws of Alderaan, and the Republic. To uphold those values, we are prepared to do much. As an officially recognized heir of House Lanar, we would support you as such, and, if you wish, protect you against unlawful attempts to undermine or harm you."

Gently, he shook his head. "But we will not fight a war for you, if that's what you mean. Alderaan has suffered enough bloodshed as it is. Fighting between houses could tear the planet apart."

[Riss]

"No, she chuckles, shaking her head as she looks back to Niall. "Just.. where I've been for the last long while support means as much as 'if something bad happens we'll give you a thumbs up from the sidelines," she chuckles again shaking her head.

Walking back over, "But thanks. I'm not here to start any wars, create any bloodshed. Not.. usually my style when I can avoid it. Still, Lanar's a name with pretty big names. Thul being one, so.. you are prepared for that?"

[Niall Organa]

"If Thul opposes the Queen's proclamation, we will support it." Niall said. "Organa is not intimidated by the Blackguards, or their Lady Massacre." He shook his head; really, it was a strange name.

He looked at her. "In terms of concrete support, if you're expecting attack, you're welcome to stay here. And we will publicly back the Queen's proclamation. Is that the answer you're looking for?"

[Riss]

"That is good for me," she says, a brief smile.

"Thank you, Major. I'll probably be seeing you again soon, mm?" she says, taking a few steps backwards toward the door. Giving a sharp nod over her shoulder as she declares her direction.
