"Yes." Galen nodded grimly. ""I don't think this will be easily undone."

"I'm no master of Sith sorcery or alchemy myself..." she sighed with sympathy for the poor creatures. "I don't know if this is a process that can be reversed. It's often difficult to return something to its original state, before corruption."

[Baesal Zyn]

She brought the hand holding the caf cup to her head piece and the amber on Baesal's forehead flared up to emit the light of a candle flame for a moment

''He was quite obsessed with resurrections so the hounds were not his main research...much like his monologue might have indicated.''

She brings her cup down and drinks

''Let's keep hope. If the corruption is not too advance we can try to reverse it or cleanse it.''

"Good." She nodded, then focused on the group.

"Darth Dominus... I've heard the name before, yes." Kat looked a bit grim at being reminded of the name. It wasn't one she had expected to remember, but her fellow padawan had shared the stories. Of him and others.

"Darth Dominus was supposedly a very loyal servant of the old Emperor, but reports say he disappeared from public eye after the death of the Emperor. A master of Sith sorcery and alchemy, delving into some truly old and dark secrets... I heard stories that he'd use alchemy to twist living beings, turning them into monsters."

She looked to Blais and Galen, then the beasts. "It certainly lines up then..."

Blai's usually easy face gets increasingly worried as he hears the Jedi's words. "... I've heard some stories about the Sith, but... argh. That's... argh... "

He refrains from trying to find a word, and looks at Galen instead as he struggles trying to calm the hounds down.

"... twisting living beings like that for one's purposes..." The thought clearly seems to trouble him deeply. He looks at Katarzyna with eyes that are at the same time deeply downcast but determined. "Well... if there's a chance, it's worth trying."

He walks closer to the hounds, tries to look into their eyes. Maybe he can try to reach out to them, little by little...

Kat wasn't a researcher, but she had some knowledge of a few things here and there, so she stepped up to take a look at the anomalies as Blai was seeing to the animals themselves.

"Yes, I see the anomalies too..." she remarked after some thought. "Not easy to spot as most things look normal, but some of it... blood of unnatural color in the stool, and pus too I think. Signs of internal corruption, and possibly internal injuries and infections as well, brought on from violent confrontations with others and eachother. Gene samples too seem to have higher readings of catecholamines compared to very low levels of serotonins."

It wasn't looking good.

"If they were younger, undoing the mutation might've had a higher chance of possibility."

OOC: Embellishing a bit since Dapper's words were "Overall normal but there seems to be uhh... signs of stuff pointing to heightened aggression and violence. They may be a lost cause as they are fully mature kath hound adults with a murderous bent."

"Well enough, thank you, Blai." She nodded to him over the small talk that was done earlier with him and she quietly turned her attention as they got to work analyzing the mutation. Admittedly, this was far beyond her expertise.

Aurilie would eventually speak up. "My apologies if this has been covered already...And how about as adults, when it comes to breeding and the like...have these hounds been just tampered with once or potentially a whole generation could exist in the future without further involvement of this Sith?"

Blai cringed with each new piece of information revealed by Katarzyna, but he seemed definitely uneasy about simply giving up on the creatures. Oddly for the usually calm and cheerful researcher, he also seemed... nervous, as if holding back some anger.

"That... sounds bad. But there must be something we can do... I wonder if whatever affected them led to genetic changes, or changes in gene expression, or... something else. Depending on what happened, there may be a chance to undo at least some of that... and then with some training..."

It's hard to be sure how much of what he's saying is the scientist thinking and how much is wishful thinking from someone who really loves animals. He seems unsure himself... but from his furrowed brow he seems to be discussing it internally.

Aurilie would eventually speak up. Looking at Aurilie with his brow still creased, he nods at her. "That's an important question indeed, miss Alde... let me see..."

"I'm not an expert on kath hound breeding, sadly." Kat shook her head, stepping away toward the nearby sink to rinse and clean her hands after the examination, just to be sure. "My experience with animals is mostly livestock and cattle."

"But... I don't rule out the possibilities that the mutations would be hereditary, and some of the smaller kath hounds we encountered I suspect might've been offspring of Black Tooth and the mature hounds."

After thinking for a while, Blai nods at Aurilie and Katarzyna, definitely worried. "Well... if the corruption actually took the form of mutations, it's definitely possible that they may be hereditary. So..." he looked at them both in turn. "You mentioned one of the smaller hounds got away, yeah? We should probably try to track it down and bring it here as well..."

Then, looking at Galen. "There didn't seem to be any other animals in the area, as you said, but it's worth double checking too. We definitely don't need corrupted or degraded fauna spreading around."

Addressing all of them again, and also the other University employees. "Meanwhile... I'll talk to the other researchers here on what we could possibly do to fight back whatever's been to the hounds. They deserve it... and finding out a way to undo this may be important an important breakthrough. In case..." he says, his brow furrowing deeper. "In case we ever have to deal with something like this again. As much as I hope it doesn't happen."

"Well, that's not good." Aurilie would say simply on the matter with a cold frown. "There should be a priority in gathering the rest, we can only hope that was the only pack in the area. Kath hounds do have a potential territory range of 7,000 square kilometres. We can hope that they don't stray far from the source but they may get further away if given enough time."

He nods at Aurilie, worried. "You're right, miss Alde. We should make it a priority to track the other one, and survey the area for any others that may have visited the corrupted lands..."

He looks at Galen, then at her again and the others. "If you have the time for it, we should probably do it today or tomorrow. Although we may need more time even after another visit to make sure no other corrupted animals are around..."

"The remaining hound is a priority." he nodded. "As for the rest, it will take time to assess the extent of the corruption. Hopefully it was limited to the hounds, but we may not know for weeks."

[Baesal Zyn]

''I do believe that knowing how to unmake such mutations will come of great use in the future'' she says with a nod ''I am familiar with Force and Sith Alchemy: if I can study the corrupting agent mayhap I can concoct something the can reserve the process.''

She crossed her arms

''Seconds generation mutants would be...harder to change however.''

Blai nodded to Galen, then to Baesal.

"We should focus on finding the remaining one then. And then... keep an eye out for any reports. I'll also talk to the team to do whatever we can to better identify the mechanism of the corruption and try to find ways to reverse it. We'll be thankful for whatever help you can give us, miss Zyn.

And we'll gladly add your name and that of the others that help in the process to whatever publications come from this, of course", he adds with a smile to everyone around... before remembering that's probably not something they're very worried a about and adding an awkward "erm..."
