"I do agree that our actions have consequences and this may just be things coming back around to me. But I am not well disposed to the argument that I committed a crime that needs cleansing, while an entire house full of assassins gets to go around and keep doing it, even attacking and threatening children, because somehow they've got the law and tradition on their side."

She shrugged. "A proper trial I would agree to, especially if there was a guarantee it'd be fair and not riddled with trickery. But it didn't seem to me like that was on the table, though I don't know how the local traditions and laws work in that regard. It seemed to me that by declaring vendetta, she and her entire house apparently get to kill me and everyone associated with me using whatever means they can, and tradition would be on their side. If someone who knows can correct me, then please. As for uncovering the true culprit, I don't see how. Both Galen and this sister died a long time ago. Must've been... eight years now? Whatever trail there would've been would surely be cold now. And I'm not exactly good at investigating this sort of thing in the first place."

[Dapper Dog]

"Anything is possible through the Force, right Master?" he offered.

[Breela Po]

From outside the room someone can be heard running the hallways, briefly stopping outside the door. Then a few moments later Breela walks in casually.

"Hi everyone!" She pauses not long into entering as the atmosphere seems... unwelcoming, or dour at the very least.

Baesal was silent during the explanation but something bugged her

''I wonder if we can trust Baras's reason for going after Galen Rist. The two deaths are to closely related to be a coincidence...perhaps Layne's attack on Galen was meant as a diversion for the murder of the sister?''

She frowned

''Does someone know the timeframe between these deaths and the re-emergence of house Thul?''

''Hum'' she turned to the newcomer ''Hello?''

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"Hold still, padawan. I will push the bones into their proper position before applying a cast-spray. The procedure will hurt." Kat let Tyche have a moment to ready herself, before doing the very unpleasant job of applying force to set the bones straight. At least the spray the followed was cooling and dulled the pain, and soon enough the foam stiffened to make a simple but light cast.

"Give it some time to rest. I'd advice no strenous activity the next couple of days, if possible."

Wiping her hands, Kat was turning to speak further with Layne, but the new arrival made her stop, as she waited for some form of introduction.

[Tethys Carrack]

((Yipes, this thread took off before I could get to it! I think it makes more sense to pull a been-here-in-the-background, if no one minds.))

Tethys has been listening quietly to the flow of conversation, nursing her glass of plankton juice and inscribing names to memory. She turns her level gaze toward Baesal at this last question.

"As I understand it, Count Zeno defected around the same time as Layne, after the Treaty of Nar Shaddaa. Thul reclaimed their holdings after that, which would be some time after Layne's earlier adventure here on Alderaan." The word adventure is so deadpan-neutral in her light voice that it could convey any one of a rainbow of opinions and judgements. "When is this Vidara supposed to have died?"

[Layne Hoshin]

"I have no idea," she said, answering Tethys, momentarily pausing for the newcomer and nodding at her before realizing she was in mid sentence and still had to finish; so she turned back to the others.

"She said her sister had died in Galen's service, and thought I was responsible for it. So it must've happened either around the same time, or before. I don't think Baras would've been concerned enough with this student of Galen's to use me as a distraction for another assassin, though it's possible she was sent against one of his operations and died there, prompting Baras to send me against her mentor in the first place."

This was becoming such a *thing*. These sorts of machinations had always been Sylvain's strong suit. She had always just been the muscle; her head was starting to hurt.

[Alysele Organa]

Aly listened and sighed.

"Well, then I think our next actions are clear. We need to find out more about the vendetta rules, and look into this mysterious death that you are supposedly responsible for."

She eyed her apprentice. "Thank you for the attention, Knight Katarzyna. We should also keep an eye on your young padawan, for any future assaults. Is there anyone else you might feel might be targeted?"

Meanwhile, she waved at Breela, indicating to a tray of fish if she was interested.

[Layne Hoshin]

"I mean, I don't think they're very discriminate. Perhaps the crew on my ship," she said.

She hadn't even learned their names yet, so it was hardly a case of going after the people she cared about, but Layne didn't think house Rist would make the distinction.

"Could go after Daz... I suppose." She looked at him a little warily, like she was expecting him to run away with the implication that she cared about him and never let her live it down.

"Or even just the Jedi in general, if she's particularly foolish."

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

The newcomer was given a bow, as it seemed Alysele knew them.

"As for these... vendetta rules. I am assuming Rist is following the rules of official feuds, as it seems she has set her terms and stated the reasons why. I am just not familiar with these officially sanctioned feuds having involved off-worlders before. But if viewed in the light of those rules, Rist will probably regard Padawan Tyche as an extension of your family." She really did not like this, or that they had been targeting a padawan to get to Layne.

"A possibility to protect Padawan Tyche could be for her to be temporarily placed under the protection of another Knight present here on Alderaan. It would make it a clear distinction that attacking her would be to instigate the wrath of the Order, as she would not be considered your family for the purposes of the feud - I don't think House Rist is foolish enough to declare a feud on the Jedi Order as a whole, especially since this is from your actions as a Sith. But this is assuming that House Rist is playing by those rules."

OOC: I'm assuming vendetta rules are the same as the feuds mentioned here, but I can always do a roll if need be to see if Kat actually knows what she's talking about.

[Tethys Carrack]

"Extending a vendetta to the entire Jedi Order would be, hm. Not very prudent, for a House that has endured as long as Rist." Tethys's eyebrow twitches up at that suggestion. "Let's hope no one tries that." For Rist's sake more than for the Order's.

"We could answer the question of death dates quickly, if there's a networked console on hand." Her own datapad probably wasn't connected to House Organa's HoloNet link. "Meanwhile, Alysele, Katarzyna..." A slight vertical line appears between her brows. "Another local question for you. How much do you know about the Thul house guards, in particular?"

[Alysele Organa]

"Well, one of them goes by the name Lady Massacre, which is really, oh so friendly." She tilted her head in curiosity. "I do have some contacts with Thul, and I can try and ask around. What in particular are you curious about Tethys?"

[Tethys Carrack]

"Mostly? Whether they are truly playing with powers that might twist the natural Force on this planet out of balance, or just have questionable aesthetic preferences," Tethys says dryly.

"If it's the latter, well, I'm not a fashion critic. If it's the former, though, someone may need to act."

[Layne Hoshin]

"Well, if they could be convinced to leave the padawans out of it, by whatever means, then I'm for it. Would..."

It really did pain her to keep being the center of attention like this.

"...a more diplomatic member among us be willing to see if they'd even agree to abide by something like that? Clearly I'm out of my depth on that end."

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"Well, if they could be convinced to leave the padawans out of it, by whatever means, then I'm for it. Would..."

It really did pain her to keep being the center of attention like this.

"By the rule of the feuds, you also have the right to set your terms. You said they gave you three days to put your affairs in order, right? I will transfer to you a copy of the treatise I have on it, as it should help you. However, I do think the goal should be to clear your name of the murder you did not commit... while also seeking to repair the crime that was committed. As much as I don't care for the ways of House Rist myself, it doesn't make it right to murder one of theirs either."

Kat did have her datapad to send the nescessary information on official feuds to Layne, if she needed it. As for who would look after Tyche... Kat wasn't volunteering for the task, given her own private matters these days.

"Knight Alysele seemed to have some knowledge of the events that occurred, judging by her earlier reactions. So perhaps she would make a suitable mediator in the matter...?"

"Mostly? Whether they are truly playing with powers that might twist the natural Force on this planet out of balance, or just have questionable aesthetic preferences," Tethys says dryly.

"If it's the latter, well, I'm not a fashion critic. If it's the former, though, someone may need to act."

"If it is indeed a group of Sith, then yes, we need to act. Though this brings us back to the former subject of how we need to gather proof of what is going on in House Thul, rather than making conclusions ourselves. Knight Alysele seems to have a possible point of entry. Skilled slicers might also be a possibility. I'm afraid to say I don't have any contacts close to Thul, so I am mostly looking to see what other options my fellow knights might have?"

[Baesal Zyn]

''Aside from knowing Zeno from way back when I have no knowledge or connection concerning House Thul''

She leaned on a nearby pillar

''I am mostly getting involved into the killik situation, trying to make peace with them''

[Katarzyna Ulgo]

"I would personally prefer if we could stay focused together on the current crisis of Alderaan being on the precipice of civil war, but," Katarzyna sighed, "I advise extreme caution if approaching the Killiks. Many have tried before to make contact with them - both peacefully and violently. Those who are not killed by them become... changed. The Killiks have this way of brainwashing people, making them lose their sense of self and to become fully committed to their hive. From what I've been told, they don't really hold much understanding of us who are not part of their hivemind."

[Tarlia Nirazas]

"We have enough crisis as it is to add the killiks," Tarlia agreed, "Prevent politics on Alderaan from spiraling out of control being the foremost. Followed by...and partly in line with disrupting whatever influence the Sith have on the planet. And now possibly protecting at least one padawan from injury for actions committed nearly a decade ago it sounds like."

"I suppose one of us will have to approach this Zeno directly and see what can be gleaned from speaking to him. Besides Knight Alysele, do we have any other ways into Thul through diplomacy?"

She smiled and nodded to the new comer, "Welcome."

[Zayne Rist]

In Rist colors, Zayne smiled and said, "Hello. Sorry, I'm late. House stuff... Silly welcome home things."
