The Count wouldn't be one to step out and profess his love to anyone out of the blue even as he was officially courting Jameela; but there was a love he could speak at length about. This might not have been what most might expect, but perhaps it was what some of the gathered populous needed to hear.

The poem Count Serenno successfully composed and delivered was a patriotic one; with the power of his charisma and far-reaching voice he made a mirror for both nobles and commoners to look into.
To live without this love, one can
With heart as dry as peanut husk,
To drink one's tiny fate in thimbles
Away from all the rue and solace
To measure hope by yardsticks own
To nest one's shelter in the dark
About the embers, t'say: it's dawn!
About the sunshine, to say nothing

What love was in so short supply
For them to glare like windows burnt
With broken glass, the smoke dispersed
Like tree trunk felled all of a sudden
Which roots stretched into earth too weak
A stretch of time it shall still linger -
Though it's already shedding green -
And fails to sough in forest's choir?

Oh, fatherland, the radiant land
I shan't be like the fallen tree
Day after day I grow within
With joy, and sorrow, pride, and ire
I shan't be like the thread that tore
I cast aside the hollow words;
One can give you little love - and live
But by no stretch one can flourish

Galen wasn't sure why he was doing this. He did honestly admire the princess, but the idea that she would notice him, much less take any interest, was laughable. Even then, it would mean nothing in the politics of it all. He understood that much.

Maybe it was just the challenge of it.

He had no understanding of poetry, beyond the awful songs Janus would sing in camp. So, he only had instinct to go on. What he saw and what he felt.
"There's a girl I imagine,
The world never gets to see,
A woman hidden away,
Wishing she were free,

Gimme the girl that’s beautiful,
Without a trace of makeup on,
Barefoot on her own,
Singing her favorite song.
Dancing around like a fool,
Starring in her own little show,
Gimme the girl the rest of the world,
Ain’t lucky enough to know.

That's the girl I want to see,
Gimme that girl"
Well, at least he didn't mention hunting.

Mark was not a poet, but if some money could be made? Well, why not give a try?

It did not go well. What would a good poem be about? It should be original, right? ............... Shit. Time is running out. There's a bucket. That's do. A poem. About a bucket. Well, fuck it.

And with that, the inspiration flowed. The poem was surprisingly good. Anyone who read the poem would know the essence of that bucket.

Unfortuantely, his performance was.... well, it could be better. He preferred the shadows. Not making a fool of himself on stage. Sadly, his poem didn't interest enough people to make any cash.

Lunael took her turn on the stage, presenting in a very traditional, perhaps even archaic form. The poetic structure of melodic language. The use of tone and leitmotif not to construct music, per se, but to express ideas in a more qualitative way than words, but still quite explicit. A style her mother was always sad went out of fashion long before she was born, but which her father was happy to learn with her.

And a technique equipped with plenty of tools for literally singing the praises of the crown, naturally.

((Goal: Affection- The Prince. Natch.))

D2 A Event: Cool, Affection: 5eA+2eD 2 successes, 2 advantage

1 poetry point. 2 advantage is just shy of doing anything, so that goes into the ether.

D2 A Event: Charm, Affection: 2eP+3eA+3eD 4 successes, 1 threat
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

1 poetry point, and tragically those excess successes do nothing. But also not enough threat to do anything.

D2 A Event: Leadership, Affection, Destiny against: 1eP+4eA+1eC+1eD 3 successes

1 poetry point.

Total: 3 poetry points.

Blai spent the whole afternoon strolling through the garden along with the Princess' entourage, looking at one after another of the enormous variety of bushes, trees and herbs from all over the Republic Space. The stroll was a journey through space, of course - but also through time.

The Tarisian Rose his mother brought back after a mission in the Inner Rim planet. The Honeyblossom incense his sister loved as they were kids. The Shisa Flowers that he'd read in a book while he was a kid, and later finally seen when he first travelled to the Outer Rim.

And the memory of a great many other species he'd seen, and that could easily complement the great beauty of the gardens. The Transluscelignum iris whose leaves and branches had made the pendant he gifted the Princess, of course, but also a variety of others.

Even though he wasn't exactly a great connoisseur of the Galaxy's poetic traditions, he felt that journey through the space-time of memory was in many ways poetry in itself. But he had to make it into actual poetry. How could he do that, he wondered?

Now that he thought about it... he did remember some of the Galaxy's traditions from his reading and his studies. But... something exactly like those traditions? Well... nobles liked tradition, that much he knew... but then that would be so frustrating!

He then remembered one particular author, who'd played around with traditional forms to make them different. That might be a good way to go. That... and the poetry of flowers.

Tradition kept and broken, the language of flowers... and the ephemeral nature of the now. Now that could be an interesting take....
in time of daffodils (who know
the goal of living is to grow)
forgetting why, remember how

in time of lilacs who proclaim
the aim of waking is to dream,
remember so (forgetting seem)

in time of roses (who amaze
our now and here with paradise)
forgetting if, remember yes

in time of all sweet things beyond
whatever mind may comprehend,
remember seek (forgetting find)

and in a mystery to be
(when time from time shall set us free)
forgetting me, remember me.*
It was not a particularly direct hint at love or who it was meant for... but he thought it was a good and interesting poem!

His declamation of the poem was not that inspired, but at least managed to emphasise the plays on rhythm and sound. And looking directly at Jameela at some points, and saying the poem was dedicated to 'someone whose time with him had been fleeting as time, but left an impression as pleasant as the lingering scent of flowers' just might be enough to make the addressee clear...

Bran was not a poet. Not any kind of writer, at all, in fact. He was a military guy whose expertise was high-speed precision bombing.

But he loved Alderaan and her people. And he had staff who loved him, and who wanted to help lower the tension being generated by certain people.

And so, with a great deal of preparation and team effort, Bran was able to deliver an acceptable poem with a most impassioned effort before a diverse audience. Not a lot of war veterans there, but there were a couple. They stuck around to listen either because they knew the famous Brannis Ulgo, or because he caught them with his introduction: "I'd like to dedicate this poem to our beloved homeworld, Alderaan."

With building emotion, he recited:
Living just my own life,
I didn't understand
That anything can happen
When you take a chance.

I only believed in what I understood.
I never opened my heart
To all the possibilities.

Right here, today,
Could be the start,
Of something new.
The start of something new.

Now who'd have ever thought that
We'd both be here like this.

I know that something has changed.
I've never felt this way.
I know it, truly,
This could be the start of something new.

Now,
It feels so right. To be here, with you.
And if I look, into your eyes,
I start to feel in my heart,
The start of something new.

I never knew how it could happen,
But now it's happened to me.
I didn't know it before
But now it's easy to see
It's the start of something new.

Poetry had never been a career path the doctor had gone down. Really creative writing in general hadn't been something he had focused on since freshman year when he took a composition class for language credits. But still much of it was just observation about the subject and how they relate to the world. This was something he did do for a living. His observations of the princess so far were that she was kind, inquisitive, intelligent and beautiful. All good traits.

When it came to the actual writing he scrapped many different verses that trended toward more flowery or too sycophantic. He wanted to be subtle to espouse the princesses virtue without slathering on praise. A delicate balance and one which he eventually found d after a little stress.

Then delivery, he was no actor or poet by profession but he did enjoy drama and performing as a hobby so while it wasn't perfect and he stumbled over a word here or there he did manage to entertain the small crowd that had gathered and while he doubted his words would enraptured the heart of the fair princess he was willing to bet it hadn't hurt his standing either.
