A dawn in space on the Sunset Dawn [Day 0, Morning]

The Sunset Dawn was not the fastest ship in the galaxy, nor the most powerful. It certainly wasn't the prettiest either. But for Layne, it was home most of the time. Everyone else tended to be of a more transient nature. Pilots and navigators came and went; getting assigned to the Jedi and transferring over to somewhere that involved a lot less in the way of danger as soon as they could get the paperwork approved. Sometimes... sometimes she missed Wilhelm. At least his screams were just part of the personality, and not a sign of impending resignation.

In more recent months, another person had started calling the ship home as well. An often angry and obstinate young teenager who was supposed to be almost eerily similar to Layne when she was that age. The Jedi Knight wasn't sure if she was ready yet to admit that the comparison was an apt one. Neither of them liked to admit it when other people were right about these sorts of things, after all. In any case, Tyche tended to sleep in more than Layne did. But then, Layne had a tendency to get the kind of early start that wasn't necessarily normal; chalk it up to her upbringing.

There were several more people who had come onboard the Sunset Dawn in more recent days. And Layne had probably beat them too when it came to an early rise. So when they might peek out from their cabins, they would find Layne with her feet up on the table of the common room, eating cereal straight out of a box as she scrolled through the latest holonews feeds.

This ship was Layne's ship. Anybody who knew the stormy jedi well enough could tell at a glance for it told a story Layne herself might not ever have spoken out loud...like the stale and rock hard gummy banthas on the pantry's top shelf.

Or perhaps this was Baesal's way or rationalising the clutter that could be found all around the Sunset Dawn.

Putting a pin in that train of thought, the second jedi knight on the ship reached for her cinnamon and pumpkin spice oatmeal before putting the kettle to boil.

''Good morning'' she said peeking out of the kitchen area ''I'm boiling water, want a tea or an instant caff while I am at it?''

"Kaf'll be good," she'd raised up a hand as if the gesture alone would've been enough to answer the question, before realizing it probably didn't and she had to actually use her words.

Then she lowered the hand again to reach into the box of cereal to fish out some more of her 'breakfast'. Sure, it wasn't a healthy and nutritional start to the day, but she'd never been one for fancy food in the first place. Okay fine, it was the *convenience* of it that was the real draw for her. In many ways, Layne had grown over these past six or so years. In others... maybe not so much.

She continued flipping through news items. During transit, Layne wore much simpler; less protective clothes; than the battle armor she'd sported throughout the war. *That* suit hadn't been of as ancient a design as the robes she'd acquired back on Korriban; which were now fitted to Tyche; but it was still much more ornate than the simple overalls she was wearing at the moment. On the table; right next to her feet; was the darksaber... like her other lightsaber it was of superior make in every respect, though she couldn't quite claim the whole thing as her own design of course, given its ancient provenance. Being an experienced mechanical sort, Baesal might notice she'd made some minor adjustments to its curved hilt, probably in the past few days or weeks; which would probably help balance it in a slightly more defensive manner. Even after all these years, they could still improve on the basics of their equipment.

And of course, Layne had quite a fair bit of it, Baesal would've noticed during the journey. Speeder bike. A bunch of small droid type remotes. Parts. Various weird little bits of hardware. For someone who wasn't the technical type, Layne *did* know the edge that equipment could give someone, and at the very least kept the hardware parts in the best condition a non-expert could keep it. There were also lots, and *lots* of expended stimpack casings. *Those* were just clutter, though.

"Thanks," she'd say once Baesal would finish up in the little kitchen and join her at the table.

Daz entered with his datapad and was talking to it, “And this is what a Jedi ship looks like… well not mine, but this junkheap still flies you would think we could afford something better but well… we make do. But it’s pretty okay.”

He tapped it and then set it down and grabbed something to eat and then back to stand in front of the datapad to do what looked like a dance and then tapped at the datapad and said to the Jedi in the room, “Good morning Layne, master.”

She looked up at her cousin when he walked in, talking to... talking *about*...

...oh no. When did he become like *this*?

"...are you, posting about my 'junkheap' on social space media, Daz?" she glared at him. He was family and so didn't get the *death stare*, but she still showed her annoyance. "Have you no sense of operational security?"

She looked toward Baesal, incredulously, "You're teaching him about *operational security*, right?"

Tyche would *never* do something like this.

...well, she *might*.

[Baesal Zyn]

There was the sounds of activity in the kitchen before Baesal appeared at the table with a tray with both her and Daz's usual breakfasts along with the beverages.

''Good morning padawan''

Taking a seat herself she answered Layne

''Yes I did and he's aware. Vlogging is not for me but I can understand the value of a different approach...at any rate I am sure Daz reviews and edit his videos so nothing sensitive is leaked.'' he glanced to Daz with a grin ''Right?''

[Dapper Dog]

"Of course, Layne is just paranoid someone is out to get her," he responded.

[Baesal Zyn]

"With our past that is not paranoïa... it's caution" she corrected

"There are many reasons to be wary. Furthermore this is still her ship and we are her guests. We should be mindful of this."

[Layne Hoshin]

"Someone *is* always out to get me," she said, then pointed to the others, "And you. And her. Just because the war's temporarily over doesn't mean we can stop being on our guard. The Sith are sure to have a bigger presence on Alderaan than we can guess at."

[Dapper Dog]

Images of a doll and asking his cousin where the dangerous Sith touched her came to mind but he nodded and said, “Got it, always alert and always ready. I will be mindful of that, master.”

Baes nodded in agreement

''We made a lot of enemies and a lot of powerful ones.'' she added ''...but I see that some good can come out of Daz's vlogs. The Jedi are often seen as aloof and distant and this is exploited against us...I do think his work can help fight against this trend in some way.''

She paused to take a sip of caff

''But being a padawan I am certain there is at least one Imperial intelligence officer assigned to watch what he shows the camera...and perhaps other hostiles too. Nothing we do is without risks.''

[Dapper Dog]

"Next time I will give the Imps a shout out," he said taking a seat and pulling over his duffel bag. He spilled out some a ruined droid head and started taking it apart.

[Layne Hoshin]

"Just," she started shaking her head, "the thought of a Hoshin asking people to like and subscribe is... at *least* tell me you don't tell them to *smash* that like button."

She had a sense of humor, contrary to what people tended to assume. Honestly, she didn't really understand social space media, but that didn't mean she was necessarily too bothered about it either. Although... her interactions with any sort of media and celebrities had not been great.

"...wait. How many followers do you even have?"

[Baesal Zyn]

''I am sure they will enjoy it'' she says with a chuckle ''But I trust your judgement Daz, you are a bright kid" she sips some more caff and sees the droid head

''Ah! Yes...'' she sips some more while letting Daz answer to Layne ''The council decided to put some more pressure on me before we left...'' she frowned ''That won't change most of what I had planned to do but who knows. I will certainly need both your help during the festival.''

"Just," she started shaking her head, "the thought of a Hoshin asking people to like and subscribe is... at *least* tell me you don't tell them to *smash* that like button."

"...wait. How many followers do you even have?"

“Smash that like button… I like it,” he said after listening to her. “Followers, well it depends on the platform. I just started on this one so only about thirty thousand but my Cor-gram… is blowing up, about to break hundred thousand, not many Jedi making content… my DMs are poppin’,” he said as he fiddled with the head.

“Still small time… that actress from Boob-Knight is up to 456 billion followers, freaking whizz.”

She slowly brought her hand up to her forehead as she realized she was just giving him ideas. And then it just... lingered there as he started tossing out terms that might as well be Baesal talking about a hyperdrive engine. She had no idea what the hell he was saying. Well, other than that apparently he had a hundred thousand people who actually listened to him. Which was terrifying.

Of course, he also mentioned boob-knight.

After a few moments of silence, she dropped her hand down again and cupped her kaf.

"...how many of those did she get after stealing her idea for a black lightsaber off of me, do you think?"

And then she sipped from her kaf.

''Well... you can't blame her for thinking you looked cool, heh?'' the Togruta replied, hoping to ease the atmosphere

''So...anyone here interested in killiks?''

[Layne Hoshin]

Truthfully, there had been little tension coming from her as far as Layne was concerned; but that wasn't exactly obvious to most other people, which was a fact that Layne had never seemed bothered about enough to try and fix.

"She could've at least paid the Jedi order some royalties for the use of that likeness," she said with a shrug. The fact that the credits were to be paid out to the order instead of herself, presumably demonstrated something akin to character growth. "Anyway, what's this about killiks?"

[Dapper Dog]

"Bug-sentients, native species of Alderaan, real tragic... #cancelalderaan," Daz replied.

[Baesal Zyn]

''Yeah...I have been studying their impressive architecture but I learned they might be active again.'' she paused ''I am wondering if we can establish peace with them.''
