[Day 2 - LM] Soup for the Masses (Twin Event)

[Jocasta Teraan]

"Ahhhhh, what could be more beautiful? More noble? Perhaps I should have spent more time in kitchens on my great quest? You speak well. Allow me to have Pantha introduce myself."
The Drall squire scurries over and bows, ladle held off to the side
"You are addressing Ser Keyhote, noble knight and...talented chef?"
The Hutt nods.

"It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance Ser Keyhote and Pantha, I am Lt. Jocasta Teraan of the Alderaan Defense Forces. And what brings you to Alderaan, are you here to enjoy our Festival? You seem to be a scholar of love and this would be the time and the place to study it."

[Desilijic Keyhote]

Looking down at Jocasta before accepting his ladle back from Sando and performing a huge stir of his cauldron with a sound like roaring rapids
"Are you here for duty? Or is your soul searching for something more?"

"You have it in one Lieutenant! I have come to explore and savour the righteous mix of love present on your fair planet. Already I have seen romance and treachery, hope and despair, love and hate! The festival is proving most interesting."

Jocasta let out a small chuckle. "It wasn't too hard of a guess, not many offworlders would come to Alderaan this time of year unless they're looking for love in one form or another.

I would categorize my presence here more in the realm of duty. Not much love going on for me."

"Then for that I am sorry. But know this! Love will come again! To live is to lose and to hurt, but to love is to be woundable! Of course, some are more woundable than others-"
He taps his breastplate beneath the apron titled 'Sector's best chef'
"-But we all hurt eventually. Perhaps you will find love where you least expect it?"

Jocasta glances over to where Prince Joran is moving tables with Garth Ulgo, who somehow managed to pull him away from the high priority task of wiping the same spot on the same table. "You speak as someone who has much experience with love. Tell me, where you have found it? Or perhaps a more interesting question is where have you found it not to be?"

[Desilijic Keyhote]

Jocasta glances over to where Prince Joran is moving tables with Garth Ulgo, who somehow managed to pull him away from the high priority task of wiping the same spot on the same table. "You speak as someone who has much experience with love. Tell me, where you have found it? Or perhaps a more interesting question is where have you found it not to be?"

"Love is within, not without. I have felt it welling within me when I consider the noble code of chivalry or upon witnessing the bonds between others. The spark may be external, but the kindling is the soul!"
Sando appears to be drifting off to sleep, having heard it all before.
"You will not find love in a soul which is closed to the galaxy, or where it is being used as a proxy for lust. Nor can you order it in a box or go for a run every day until you build up your loving muscles. Oh, and in all my many years of travel I have never seen any form of love at a Department of Stellar Vehicles."

Jocasta gave him the most respectful curtsy she could gracefully manage and marched off with a renewed sense of purpose.

[Brannis Ulgo]

She turned, locking her yellow eyes on him and said, “Yes, Brannis Ulgo, correct?”

"Ah, indeed, ambassador. Honored to be recognized," he says politely. "And you, ah, seem to be quite a significant presence these days, if I may say." Brannis manages to organize himself with the sort of professional smile that sees a lot of use in the House of Lords but that he generally doesn't inflict on "real people."

"Very well spoken Mr. Keyhote. I believe you have said exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you. Now, I think I have some people to feed and some sparks to ignite."

"What ho! Look at her go Pantha, her fire will be burning soon. Another victory for love!"
Sando nods and goes to fill his own bowl....he didn't actually mind slugs.

[Count Serenno]

Count Serenno found nothing demeaning in the acts of kindness to one's people. They were actually essential parts of statecraft. The bond between the ruler and the subjects was hierarchical by definition, but the mutual sense of obligation ought not to be taken for granted, and it didn't mean it couldn't be infused with love.

Dressed in his graphite uniform, the Count performed the role of a server.

Kellen was rather enjoying the anonymity of serving soup to people who weren't his students. No nervous looks. No attempts to gain favour. No-one accidentally mentioning those awful papers by Lyseil Panteer, thank the stars.

Instead he was able to enjoy some conversations with regular people. Mostly he focused on explaining to them what was in the soup: "You see it has a base of bone broth and root vegetables from across the system. Very nutritious." "Yes, all your essential vitamins. Several micronutrients too. Quite yummy to boot!" "Actually the mix of twelve-spice and Alde's Bloom is very good for the immune system, perks you right up!"

Niall nodded, then he frowned. "What do you mean, equity?"

"There is more we could do, programs to reach out to other worlds, better disbursement of resources to places in need. It's our role to better the lives of those that have put their trust and faith in us to lead them, maybe it's silly," she said to Niall.

Setting down the table at their destination, Garth clapped the prince on the back. "Tha's th' spirit. Now ah got a few more tables t' go, ye're welcome t' help or return t' yer lady friend as y' see fit. Glad ah could help y' see the value in all this
a li'l clearer though."

"It's a good cause, and it matters to Jameela," he said as they finished.

Once done he found something else to do and be useful. It still sucked but he wasn't going to let it keep him down.

Garth spent a few more minutes setting up the rest of the tables, giving another few dozen citizens a place to sit and enjoy Hutt slug soup, or whatever they were calling it. The manual labour agreed with him and he wiped his brow of a few stray drops of perspiration with a rag before heading back to Ziandra.

"Tables 're set up, wi' the help of Prince Joran," he remarked with a self satisfied grin. "An' now the Prince has gotten int' the spirit of this tradition, well at least more'n before."

"Do y'' need anythin' else, or I'll just help out on the floor."

[Ziandra Thul]

There is the sound of dishes crashing and smashing and she responded, "Perhaps lead our clean up efforts."

Garth cringes slightly at the sound of the crashes and knows what Ziandra is likely to say before she says it.

"Anythin' t' help th' cause." He replies before he heads to the kitchen, picks up a tray and starts bussing tables, starting with Miyi's section.

Flashing her a smile, he works hard. Given the popularity of the soup kitchen today, he is never short of tables to clean.

"Prince Joran, it looks like you are in need of a task. I could use some help getting these civilians organized at the door and it would be nice if they could see your smiling face first thing." She casually hooks his arm and makes her way to the entrance. "And you get to keep me company."

Niall shook his head. "No. It's not silly. We're part of the Republic, and the Republic has people in need. If we all work together, we can make not just Alderaan, but the rest of the Republic a better place to live." Smiling, he nodded at her. "And you're quite right, that is our role."
