“We cannot go, the sour notes come from the deep, our children stillborn, it burns us only here and with our countering song can we be safe but we grow tired… we grow few. We will die,” the Joiner said.

“We can lose one of our lights follow.”

The Joiner starts walking forward and deeper into the hive.

Galen immediately followed.

She follows, learning much from the simple act. She will watch closely to how the symptoms manifest in the 'volunteer'.

Did they hear anything? He looked at Elur. Did she seem troubled by any sort of smell or sound?

"Is... is it something that happened deeper into the hive, then?"

And Breela's question was a good one... were they the soft ones? If so, this meant one of them had done this... but what was it that had happened?

Seeing Galen and Breela follow, he extended his hand to them. "Careful..."

A bit warily, he joins the others, although he stays at the back walking along with the she-wolf.

The Joiner maneuvers through the hive chambers and walkways, stepping over corpse or mangled but still living killiks though most are dying or dead. They find a large chamber with a device in the ground and the Joiner approached until it felt to their knees and black blood ichor starting pouring from their ears and eyes and mouth.

A circle of many such joiners and killiks form misshapen rings around this device.

OOC: Average with a setback Mechanics to disable the device or they can just smash it The Joiner looks like it is dying worlessly.

They find a large chamber with a device in the ground and the Joiner approached until it felt to their knees and black blood ichor starting pouring from their ears and eyes and mouth.

She pays close attention, then turns to the others, "Do any of you possibly have a vial, or anything that could collect a sample of that black stuff?"

She then examines the device for any tell-tell signs of its origin.

The Joiner stops dying and it said, "The sour notes are gone... we can hear the others but so few lights. So few."

"I am so sorry," she says to the person, "please let us stay and investigate this. So that we can endeavor to prevent its like from happening again."

[Galen Sol]

Galen was still taking it all in. He opened himself to the Force again, reaching out to sense whatever was left living around them.

There is not much outside of them, this Hive is now more a crypt than a hive.

OOC: I'm guessing there's nothing to be learned about the device's origins? We only want to talk to the other team

He pushed his anger aside. It wasn't difficult to guess what had happened. The only questions were who and why they'd use something like this. Those answers probably wouldn't matter much, overall. He imagined many on the planet would approve of the results, if not the means.

"Maybe we can at least learn more about the killik while we are here." he suggested.

[Breela Po]

She motions surreptitiously at the dead 'joiners', hoping Sol would remember her comment about the vial.

He did have some specimen containers. They were for collecting samples to update the chem lure's database. Kneeling down, he carefully took a few samples.

[Breela Po]

"They'd likely not let us, but if we could leave with a few bodies. I'm sure we could learn a great deal from them."

Breela will continue searching for clues about who and why. Assuming she doesn't find any she'll approach a joiner and ask what the hive remnants will do now.

The more she thought about the sequence of events, the more she wondered if cleansing this hive was in any way tied back to their original problem. "What are the chances that that museum theft and this... atrocity... are in anyway connected?"

That was really a lot to take in.

At least it was good that the device had been deactivated. He was going to mention specimen samples, but Galen offered his own before that. "I do have some vials on me as well, if it helps", he added.

And then the last words of Breela set in. "Wait... museum theft? What?"

He had really missed a lot, apparently...

Looking at the Killik, he was still a bit wary, but tried to keep his voice calm and as friendly as possible. "I... I'm sorry for your terrible loss. I... don't assume you would know anything else about... this?", he gestured at the mechanism. "Where it came from? Or... at least when it got here?"
